Hi folks, I'm looking for some advice with regards to painting my calipers, I got them sandblasted and bought a paint on paint kit that turned out a mess, so I had to take them back to get sand blasted again, I'm looking for a aerosol can as this will give a good even coat, I'm thinking of painting them either Gold, blue or orange. I've done a search on the web but can't find what I'm looking for, any ideas ?

I found this stuff OK, easy to apply and a nice finish.

Are you going on track at all? If you are then you need the really good stuff. I hammerited my RX-8 calipers and then went brown after a few trackdays. Not sure if the "heat resistant" hammerite is different. I re-painted mine with this: http://www.brakecaliperspecialists.uk/brake-caliper-painting-kit/

They have been fine for about 10 trackdays now :)

I went on with these...

Tomorrow will be posted, the day after tomorrow it arrives... perhaps in the weekend i'll do it :) but maybe i will wait, as my alloys are still not up... I am using M+S tyres here, as it's forbidden by law to use summer tyres while cold... it could be up already, but i will take around 15 a trip to some mountains.... so M+S it is... even if I'll paint them, I'll take a pic with wheels off... but we will see :)

It was recomended by some guys who actually do coast course with the Puma :) so...

hi i have just done my front brake conversion. things you will need:
:ford fiesta st rs turbo st200 300mm brake caliper conversion £50 off ebay:
:ford focus st170 300mm discs:£22.00 off ebay reduced from £66.00
:drill 12mm:for hub
:13mm socket:for old brake bolts
:15mm socket:for new brake bolts
:14mm spanner for the new caliper pipe to undo:
:10 or 11mm spanner for the origonal pipe to undo:
:hacksaw and file:to cut couple of mill off new bolts lenth
:clingfilm:(cover the top of the brake fluid resivoir to form a vackum and stop loosing fluid when swapping the calipers over)
first get the 4 nuts (come with caliper)and cut a couple of mill off as otherwise they stick out the back and leave little clearance for the disc.
first this is the caliper when i bought it
Image
then i cleaned them up and painted them purple
Image
Image
and this is my wheels with the old caliper and discs on
Image
then i took the wheels off
Image
and got my 13mm socket and breaker bar on the 2 nuts
Image
then i got my drill ready with a 12mm drill bit
Image
and drilled the hole on the hub to 12mm at the top using wd40 as a coolant when drilling
Image
and then the bottom hole
Image
then i connected the brake line back on by holding the pipe straight and spinning the caliper on then hanging the caliper on a bungey tighten the pipe
Image
then slip the new disc on
Image
then bolt the caliper on (15mm) and use threadlock on the tip i done mine up as tight as poss as dont know the tourque settings and dont have a tourque whrench.
Image

then bleed the system.
then front wheel are put back on
Image
new discs verses old
Image
old calipers verses new
Image
old setup
Image
verses new
Image
now i just have to bed them in. As soon as i braked could feel the stopping power so much better i did have a judder under bracking before with old setup had put it down to the disc on the drivers side was warped and it was as now its super smooth.

hope this helpe anyone out if they are interested in doing a front brake upgrade its worth it.
turned out cheaper to do this than get new standered pads and discs.

If you've had them sandblasted, you could get them electro-plated as an alternative to painting? You can get a bright silvery finish from a standard zinc or gold from a passivate.

Have a look in the how to section and view guide, takes you through it :eek:k:

Hi,
Hammerite does work well and stands up to heat, I have used it for years on engines, cylinder head, in vicinity of exhaust manifold no problems. But having said that I did my calipers in a primer because I liked the colour and finished them in a clear coat gloss. I think this would equate to a body paint scheme, durable and fit for purpose. After two years no discoloration, and still fresh.
