Brake pedal has gone all soft on me...

As some of you may know I just got a 2002 MK6 Ford Fiesta 1.4. It was fine when I first got it but less than a week into ownership the brake pedal has got dangerously soft. If I keep my foot pressed on it for more than 3 seconds or so the pedal completely hits the floor and goes soft. It wont even stop the car if I'm going fast! I've read that it can be something to do with air in something? Any help would be amazing! Thanks

Check the brake fluid level first of all

agreed - and once you've checked that there are no leaks it is a good idea to change your brake fluid in any case (it doesn't stay good forever!)

I bought the car with no service history, silly I know but it was a bargain! If It's never been serviced then maybe the brake fluid does need topping up or changing. Never really thought of that.

maybe the clutch release bearing has failed and spat it's oil out... that happened to me whilst trying to force out a couple of pistons on a chaps FRP.. lol
