2 new tyres (Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2) fitted on Friday.

And on the rolling road at AMD today, she put out 222.4bhp, which is spot on what she should have.

I'm looking at getting those tyres for the Civic in the coming months - keep us updated to how they perform :eek:k:

I had 4 of them on the Focus ST - excellent tyre :eek:k:

TT "light" silver vs A2 Akoya Silver

I've just realised that I didn't photo any photos from the show on here, so just a couple:

It started off a bit wet:

But dried up nicely!

On the TT forum I'm on, one of the Owner's Club reps had been approached by someone from Northampton Audi for some TTs to be on display for their new 'Showroom Showcase'. So I volunteered my little beast as she's presentable and standard, which is what they wanted. Apparently they've expanded the showrooms, and were having an invitation only opening night. Free drinks and nibbles, entertainment... all a bit pretentious for us, but it was something different!

The display was MK1, MK2 and MK3 coupés and roadsters:

The MK2s and MK3s that they'd put on display could have done with a clean first!, and the MK1 roadster that had volunteered could have done with a going over with a bit of quick detailer, so mine was easily the cleanest there. Even so, and even with us knowing she's in very good condition (barring a couple of little cosmetic niggles to sort), it was very nice to get some compliments from complete strangers (and some of the other TT owners who were there too) on her condition.

The bumper on the one in front was in a terrible state!

She did get some very nice compliments. It was just weird seeing random people opening the doors and trying the seats out for size!!

It was also funny watching people trying to open the boot, as there's no outside button for it!

Amazing how showroom lights make a car look good. That red one was a complete mess!

Only a minor update for today. I would have got more done, but it's bitterly cold out there. Even working in the garage, and wearing gloves, I couldn't feel my finger tips by the time I came indoors!

So, job one was to replace the third brake light. I spotted back in July that there was a broken corner in the plastic. It was nothing major as the light still worked perfectly, and I managed to mostly ignore it for a couple of months before giving in and ordering a new one. Then it was another 5 months or so to get around to actually fitting it!

New one in place:

I was a bit nervous about breaking something, but other than it being fiddly and stubborn to get the new one in, it was pretty easy. It helped that we've got some plastic trim levers, so they helped with the manoeuvring, as using screw drivers would have mangled the edges of the plastic.

Job number two was to replace the cracked front number plate. I also took the opportunity to replace the rear one at the same time, as I much prefer the look of clean, logo free plates.

I don't like screws on number plates either, so a quick clean off of the dirt, and a wipe down with IPA before breaking out the velcro. We've always used velcro for plates, as they're easy to take off to clean behind, and perfect if you have some show plates too. There are at least two sets of holes behind the plates both front and rear, but at this point, there's not too much to be done about those.

I wanted to get the scuttle panel changed, and the seats out to give the carpet a good clean too, but that's turned into a job for another day. In part because it was bitterly cold out, even with gloves and working mostly in the garage, and partly because I'm not confident on being able to remove the wiper arms on my own. Strength and reach both being a factor there. So seeing as Darren's back had given a warning twinge whilst he was cleaning the A2, it wasn't something he was going to be helping me with today, and risk his back going into spasm again.

And something I didn't realise until I came indoors, but in fairness, should have expected, was Darren taking sneaky action shots...

Over the last six months at least, there's been a dull knocking and clunking coming from the rear of the car. My go-to TT specialists (APS in Brackley) have had it in on two separate occasions (for service and MOT respectively) but couldn't pinpoint what the issue was. It has been annoying them that they couldn't find it as much as it's been annoying me driving with it! So they've had it since Monday to try and finally track down the issue, as Darren has his new car, and I've been able to take the A2 to work this week.

They actually found it on the first day! They had another TT in that they were changing the rear dampers on, so they decided to try them on mine first. If nothing else, it would rule them out as the cause, but it cured the noise completely! These dampers were new 15k miles ago, so we hadn't previously considered them as the cause. They were replaced FOC by Bilstein with no quibble at all.

I can't speak highly enough of Ed at APS enough, even though the original dampers were fitted at another garage (that I won't go back to for other reasons) who held the warranty and organised the replacements, Ed didn't charge me a penny for their time investigating and fitting the replacements.

Great service from APS - I've booked little tanklet A2 for a quick service there as feel totally confident in their abilities and taking care for cars in their care. You can tell they love cars - Ed was fawning over my RS when he asked for a look over..

 excellent result! That's amazing service and they obviously value your custom to go above and beyond

A few weeks ago, I got forced onto a kerb by a lorry who wanted my lane as well as his own. The impact took took a chunk out of the edge of the alloy, and sliced the side of the tyre on both the front and rear wheels. Plans were set in place to get the alloys refurbished, and two new replacement tyres.

We had two sets of alloys (mine from the TT, plus a set of 16" from the A2), plus a set a of winter tyres loaded into the the A2, and off we trundled. It's amazing how much you can get in the back of these things!

A week later, we picked them up, all fresh and shiny!

A quick coating of C5 to to protect the new finish, and we're good to go. I went for sparkle silver rather than the standard flat silver, just for a bit of a change.

I was very glad to get the awful shitty replicas off the car! They were cheap, and the tyres are good on them, but that's the only thing going for them!

I'll get these refurbished as well, I just need to decide on the finish.

All changed over, and back to being spotless!
