Recently bought 1.7 with engine warning light on.
The air filter was filthy, replaced with new Halfords paper element and the light when't out by itself.

Any ideas why ???

Lack of air most probably due to said clogged filter. Engines like lots of air, and clean air at that. Dirty filter equals lack of air flow and the ECU will see the engine suffocating so shouted for help....lol.

Lots of people don't realise how important that very cheap piece of pleated paper is...lol. :eek:k:

soo true.

I've just got a thunder
Got it and warning light was on all the way home oil everywhere under the car.
Was thinking the worst and spent the last week my head in the bay with a rag and wd 40.
took filter housing off to clean it a bit better and the filter was black.

new filter= light gone.
