What i dont get is when i had the silver 1.7 puma it had a cat back powerflow exhaust systen and it had a powertec air induction and it had been lowered 30 it did 80miles with 10litres if i booted it evrywhere like 2nd and 3rd gears town driving and i got over a 100miles if i stuck to 70 on motorway.....but in my millenium it bn lowered 40 standard wheels, powertec induction, cat back exhaust same as other but it does 50miles for ten litres when driving fast and 70miles if i drive 60 on motorway, both pumas had cam belt kit done both similar age and mileage and both had same services.tire pressures are same 32in frnt and rear 26 back end doesnt go takin corners. So whats causing the poor mpg.i drive same as i did in silver

Unless you drove both cars on the same route with the same traffic etc, then it's subjective.

Each engine will be different - different spark plugs, different coolant, different coil etc etc so no two cars will be the same. Different tyres can change MPG figures as well.

The best way to find out and keep a record of MPG is to fill the tank to the brim (so you can see it) and then once that's run down, fill back up to the brim again. Then you'll know how much petrol you've used and mileage done. If you think you've used 10 litres, how do you know?

I filled it to brim which said about 35 litres on pump.then i drove on motorway from leeds to manchester doing no more than bang on 70 kept it under 4000rpm. Then drove round wakefield and to pontefract driving fast from time to time not illegal fast lol and i got 160miles when petrol light came on. What mileage do you lot get on 1.7 puma or the millie which would be better for me lol

160 miles for a tank? You'd best get that car seen to. Possibly over fuelling with a faulty hego sensor would be my 1st guess.
A Millie is the same as any '98 > '00 Puma mechanically. Cherie's gets over 300 miles to the light every time. Mine does about the same. If I drive like I stole it for a tanks worth, it'll get 240 - 260 miles. On the Nurburgring, I got 80 miles for half a tanks at 5000rpm+ all the time.

What if i had an hole in cat could that affect it. Because sometimes can feel heat under car dnt know if that normal and seconldy can exhaust system cause that it cat back straithrough with massive backbox at end to stop sound and maximise pressure for performance by exhaustuk.

I have a Milltek Cat back and doesn't make any difference MPG wise to me. A hole in the CAT wouldn't halve your MPG.

Why would you maximise exhaust back pressure?

I get 240 to the light mostly n my car... 160 something is wrong. I'd also suspect the lambda/hego .. holes in the exhaust can cause bad fuelling though i'd not imagine it to be that bad.

This has little things done like the 220mm clutch put in instead of the standard 210mm from pumaspeed. Use denso iridium spark plugs with 8.5 red magnecor leaads and the msd coilpack from puma speed. Got brakes upgraded fro 240 to 260 with dot 5.1 brake fluid and got 10m axel plate, g-max shocks, jamex springs, poly all round, new wishbone, new cambelt kit used 5w30 oil got told to use millers oil,got powertec induction.new oil and fuel.service it evry 6000miles. Take spare wheel and parcel shelf out so get a 15inch sub in bt that doesnt affect it i tried without.got front and bck strut bars. 10,000k xenon hid kit which i use 24/7 i mean also during day. Passed mot with no advisory or anything last week. So dnt know if any of these are affecting mpg

^^ None of that will effect your MPG down to 160 miles to a tank ^^

Maximisd pressure as previous exhaust system was straight through from cat to tip with no filtes, silencer or backbox js pipe all way throuth, with that it was louder than a superbike revvin . Plus it was slow so went to exhaust specialists they told me it slow because there is little pressure so got a big expenisue back box put in to get rid of all that sound and increase pressure

What can i do, im thinking of seeing tony at pumaspeed tomorrow

Something sounds seriously awry here.

Although I am trying to curb my heavy right foot, I do tend to drive fast everywhere except built up areas... and I get around 270/280 miles before the light comes on. Which would - with the reserve - put me quite a bit over 300 miles for the tank.
If I drove in a more genteel fashion - I would be well over the 300 miles.

I am not expert - but none of the mods you have mentioned should make the mahoosive difference in mileage you have listed, so I would assume there is a problem somewhere.

God i hate this part, not knowing whats wrong with car.iv tried redex but my opionion of that after CRAP doesnt do nothing lol

As has been mentioned twice, our 1st guess would be that your HEGO / O2 / >Lambda< sensor (whatever you want to call it) is faulty causing your car to over fuel.

Where is this sensor located and how much is it to buy and like labour. Or is there a way i can have my sensor checked

On your Millennium there is only one:

(Centre of picture with wires out the top)

On the top of the exhaust manifold at the back of the engine. Their about £50-£75 ish and can be fitted in a matter of minutes.

when i rev soimetimes can smelly petrol quite strong or after i been hammering it and i park up at home in garden i can smell burning smell outside dont knw if its brakes coz iv seen them steam like a kettle in dry or the exhaust.it definetly isnt under the bonnet

Hence our synopses that your car's HEGO is broken and why you can smell excess petrol.

my wifes car is having the same problems, she is getting around the same mpg as my 2.9 v6 sierra lol which isnt good as it used to do more than double the mpg, the hego is the first thing on our list to replace then we were told to change the temp sensor.
