stick with standard management for 250bhp especially if its already wired in.

omex is ok but expensive compared to some of the competitors. remember you dont need anything too fancy for a simple cvh turbo on a road car. competition is a different matter.....

cosworth radiators will fit the front end but you need to make custom mounts. also depends on your intercooler. you need to get both in plus the fans. remember your turbos on the front between engine and rad so its tight on some cars.

She has an RST OFAB management with a 195 chip and RST/Puma loom. I plan to start with an RST rad and double capacity RST intercooler to start with.

Do u think I would be able to fit an RS500 intercooler and an alloy RST radiator? These plans are for when fitted
with the ZVH. Do u think the OFAB with be able to cope with the ZVH conversion or would aftermarket be better?

Cheers

well i have a bigger than rs500 cooler and a cosworth radiator and fans and it fits in the front end fine. the problem you will have is that th front point of the engine is the turbo as its on the exhaust manifold down front bottom of engine and hence you have reduced clearance between engine and rads etc. You need to measure it, its as simple as that.

The general concensus seems to be that once you go to 2.0 or 2.1 ZVH or zetec turbo then you will be far better off in terms of getting a decent map by going down either aftermarket or cossie route management. just remember to price up your options.

Thanks for your advice Warren.

I have yet to fit the manifold and turbo which I will be doing this weekend. Getting a new alloy RST radiator and RS500 intercooler with 60mm core at the end of the month.

Just ordered a set of RS turbo Roose Motorsport silicon hoses which I collect this week. :) Top boost hose from Charge carrier to intercooler has pipe to fit a dump valve so will be fitting that at the end of the month too. :)

Also picking up and fitting this month is my modified exhaust system which has an RST downpipe and the rest is custom made to fit the puma.

All I need then is to get a battery tray made up, Get a suitable back box which is gonna be a stainless steel backbox with a 4inch rolled in tailpipe, Then get the gearbox rebuilt and fitted with an S2 LSD. After that it should be ready. :)

That does sound like a good idea but I dont think I need anti lag on a CVH engine. Wouldn't that put alot of un-needed stress on the engine and turbo being constantly on boost and also drink the fuel. lol. Also I dont think it help with traction.

If I had your car then I think I would go for that option but on mine I am gonna go for the dump valve and maybe get my T3 upto stage 2 spec. I think that would still sound good for a Puma and still make for a fun car.

you can run anti-lag when you upgrade to ZVH/zetec turbo. also you dont run it all the time either! lol!

I would seriously consider zetec turbo over ZVH when you do upgrade. Much better allrounder and so much easier to do as one package.

Your the second person to say that today. lol. Would like to do a full zetec conversion but its the expense of doing that. I wanna get the car on the road first with the RST engine then sort the handling out and get the drivers door and scratch on front bumper sorted out. Once that is done go for the new engine.

I have been quoted 1k for a ZVH conversion . Thats for the block and head but can use everything I already have apart from ECU but tempted by the GoTech management. Cheap and cheerful but will do the job.

When I went to get the hoses I only got the top hose from charge carrier to intercooler, but the bloke I bought it from specializes in RS Turbos aswell as and silicon hoses and will build me up a set specific to what parts I fit

I am looking at getting a new RS500 intercooler( but have been offered an Escort Cosworth charge cooler and neccesary bits to go with though) and a new RST alloy radiator with twin slim fans so that should cope with the power.

What do u think a full zetec conversion will cost?? Thanks

Plus how do I add more the 1 pic in a single post as struggling to add more then 1. Thanks again

cut and paste the IMG code from photobucket to link the pictures.

thing is if you go down the route of replacing the CVH, it will cost you just as much to fit an inferior ZVH compared to a zetec turbo.

You still need aftermarket pistons etc plus the money you save on headwork needed on a ZVH can be used to buy the plates to fit the CVH inlet and exhaust manifolds.

Remember the cheap piston route is using the vauxhall turbo pistons.

The long term potential and reliability of a zetec turbo wins hands down over a ZVH any day of the week!!

for £1k id want to know what has been fitted to the ZVH conversion especially piston wise, new bearings etc etc. Sounds a bit too cheap to be true. remember theres little point in doing a 1.8 ZVH when the 2.0 zetec block is readily available.

Remember ZVH or zetec turbo you need the right compression ratio so fundamentally your looking at new pistons. Spacer plates are not really a good idea if you want a decent power level.

im thinking rst in my red puma aswell. got te engine there if i want it. mate of mine was gunna but it in his zetec s fezzbomb but hes changed his mind. Are we talking big job or is it pretty easy??? Also will the car still use the same powersteering kit or do i need some thing different in there to work??

Thanks for advice Warren.

Decided to stick with 1.6 CVH for now and just enjoy that as have got my eye on another project. :)

Since last post I have fitted turbo, mount from box to chassis, gearbox linkage, driveshafts, fuel pipes and exhaust system.

All thats needed now is intercooler which i'm waiting to be delivered, radiator which is being purchased next week, battery which i'm picking up this week. new oil and fluids. then should turn over. then rebuild or replace gearbox and fit an S2 lsd and get a decent backbox. and thats it.

I couldn't tell u Cusworth as the conversion was done b4 I bought it. I just refitted the RS Turbo engine. It was plug and play. :D

Once this is one the road will be keeping this as weekend toy then doing and Escort cabriolet with RSTurbo conversion ready for summer. :)

Hey all. Just a progress report.

Everything is now fitted fitted, and plumbed in except the LSD. Got a stainless steel 3inch tailpipe, Dome style air filter. RSTurbo radiator and Twin capacity alloy intercooler. All hoses, pipes and connectors are fitted. Just need to fill up with Decent Oil and get my S2 RSTurbo LSD fitted then :D on the road. :)

Why are you selling when you are so close to completion? Its a good set up you have there, you can get good figures out of that engine, and it will be fun to drive too!

And for reference, the thinner 45mm RS500 intercooler is big, but VERY efficient, and because its quite flat, will be a lot easier to mount, so its a good choice. I might use the same one myself!
