I'm doing some digging into the Insurance system in the UK and I'd like our sponsor's to post up some information.

Based on the post code, can they post the last 4 years crime rates that effect post code rating

I'd also like to particular look at those claimed to be 'High Risk'

Any help would be most useful

Its three data sets combined, the postcode table with the northing and easting, letter A in that list is the risk A-F, all those codes are good. Final number is the risk index, 1 being best in the country and 1700ish being the worst. There are zeroes because there are 2800 outward postcodes but only insurance data for 1700 of them.

Just thought - the crime stats are free now aren't they? Nothing on data.gov.uk? Those crime map apps are all getting it from there I think. I'll have a poke about at some point if don't get fixed up.

Cheers ian

The stats on there are forming one part of this, however I'd like to get the stats as used by insurance companies.

I'm doing a couple of data release forms to them all any way asking for this and from the abi

i doubt youll get any meaningful answers out of them.

if they gave you accurate data then you could in theory work out youre being ripped off! they arent going to want that so it will be "commercially sensitive" or some other excuse not to get you what youre asking for.

No doubt your right Warren, However I have sent some companies the data request.

Its only fair that as a consumers we are allowed a independent view of what insurance factors effect us.

For me I will always stand by the fact that Insurance should return to the Tariff scheme as it was before 1960

The ABI would give the companies / brokers a guideline high and low figures based on a age group and car group and the companies would then decide were to pitch there price for the year. So if they wanted to Insure more safe drivers, they would offer low prices for middle age drivers.

This was a very fair and open way for both the company and the consumer.

We as consumers want this, but they refuse to do this as the profit margins are lower - pure and simple

to achieve that would require the complete banning of the claim culture for a start and i think we are too far down the road to do that because everyone now has too many pointless "rights"

plus why would the government do it? fair premiums would equal less insurance premium tax, less tax on the over inflated costs for repairs etc etc etc.

And theyve still got the perfect get out clause for anything motoring related - the environment.
