When I get to 40-70 mph the drums at the back sound very loud, the brakes are great though.

I have grinded back the rust on the current drums to bare metal (around the lip) and still it persists, could it be the bearings or the carrier plate? If the latter can these be replaced? Now the 'resonance' after grinding is at a lower speed.

I think that someone in the past has used a crowbar to force the drums off and distorted the carrier plate (not by much mind).

Anyone had this problem?

EDIT: I should point out that when the alloy wheel is off the drum spins but can still hear a low level noise!

Hi,
I changed the suspension and check my rear breaks few weeks ago.
I had little sound so I change suspension and check the rest.
Maybe it can be the bearings if the sounf is continuous, not so hard to change on this models, just have to remove break drum and ABS ring.
If you need help to check and change I can help you.
There is 2 bearings per wheels :

Hope it can help you.

Thanks for the link!

Gone ahead and ordered new bearings, found that I can get two set (i.e. 4 bearing rings) and next day delivery for £15!! Bargain!
Doesn't include the locking nuts BUT I had bought some new ones recently (a thread else where here on the forums).

I cannot get the leaves in or out, they have to be pressed in by a garage, but as I have done before I leave in the already pressed sleeves (after looking carefully for wear) then just put in the new bearings with lots of grease.

Will report back.

Good :)
You can do it with a minimum tool ...
I think this bearing doesn't need to be press ... after removing the break drum, you have to remove the ABS ring (with a little special tool) and normaly the bearing come without any tool.
You will have a special join to avoid grease gone between tthe ABS ring and bearing.

I plan to change my bearings as well on the 2 wheel with ABS, iy you want I can post a tuto.
I order the parts today and I should do it next week end because I work all the week.

Perfect :) I didn't see that.
Not so very hard, just remove the break drum, but for ABS ring I use a special tool :

The link is just to show you the tool, you can find it for less expansive.
