Hi every1,

As the title says. I have acquired on eBay an escort RS turbo LSD (S2) to be installed in my puma's gearbox. As you all know, it is a bigger job that would end up in upgrade of a clutch. Common sense calls for change of all seals on gearbox as well. Having taken all that in account, it makes little if any sense not to service LSD itself prior to the installment, doesn't it?

So my question(s) would be: is there such thing(s) as set of seals or even friction plates for the diff? Or is there a proven specialist who can get the job done?
As you all know, I am not in UK and thus would prefer set of spare parts to be given to our local specialist, but if there is no other way, I would send the diff for service to UK.

I did send an e-mail to gearboxman.co.uk but got no answer at all. Anyone has any experience with them? Or any personal recommendation?

Thanks in advance,

I've been enquiring about getting my LSD re built over the last few weeks. Most of the companies I contacted, use Bara Motorsports to rebuild any of they diffs.

Here's the reply I got from Bara.

These unit at a standard setting are 35Nm when they are new and we uprate them to the maximum setting of 120Nm for better traction and handling.

If the unit is a mk1 unit with circlips on each side and we do not need to machine the unit and the cost is £260
Two working days from when the unit arrives.

If you have a welded unit and we have to machine the unit and then reset it the cost is £385 and take two weeks approx.

Happy days

Might have been better of buying a Quaife unit.. (Ok, it is not the same, quaife is 'nervous' on slippery road etc, but is new..)

Did you do it? Or, to say it differently: did you notice any drop in performance, had any problem, or just want to make sure it will work OK in the long run?

I've not had it done yet, I'm still enquiring enquiring about getting it done. I'm trying to work on the price by getting multiple units refurbished.

How many of them are you sending in? Might just piggyback with you…. :?:

I am currently looking at personally getting 3 refurbished. But this may increase as I might open it up to other FRP LSD owners.

I'm not looking at getting them done at any time in the near future. I started my enquires so I could find out who was able to do the refurbishments with a rough estimate of price and time needed to complete the work.

And, to the best of your knowledge, Bara Motorsport is the only adress that can get job done? I have few gearbox specialist here, but I don't think any of them is able to provide this sort of service simply because there are not that many viscous LSD around….

And, yes, all the infos are greatly appreciated, thanks in advance and reverse

One additional question: did you have to skin 2 mm of the outer edge to fit LSD to the puma crown wheel? I have conflicting infos on this. Some say it has to be done, some say it is straight fit if you have 8 bolt diff…

Again, ta

My FRP runs a RST LSD.
About 2mm off the outer diameter for the crown wheel and the bearing at the speedo drive side changing. You really need to change the speedo drive nylon wheel anyway ;)
