Recently noticed how cheap my puma speakers sound, does anyone know what power the standard speakers are? I dont want to upgrade to ghetto blaster style speakers, just something that doesnt sound so hollow. Im lead to believe the sizes are 130mm for fronts, and 5" x 7" for rears, there seems to be a few different options available, so would like to know the power of originals if possible.

Thanks in advance

think there 25watts or 40watts they do sound very cheap

These will be fine, but obviously you get more bass from having an amp, anyhow these will be miles better than the standard speakers:

I wouldn't bother going much more expensive or powerful if you're going to stick with the ford head unit.

Some sound proofing around the front speaker mount will help the sound a bit, and some foam behind the front speaker to stop sound reflecting back through the cone, also if you want to take it further then you can seal up all the holes in the door (except the drainage hole) so it becomes a sealed box. I mean you can do a lot of things to improve the sound which might not be too expensive but just take a while.

Cheers for the info, its not a standard head unit, but I'm not looking for anything loud, I only want a decent quality sound, my head unit is about 50w per channel, and that's plenty for me, I just like to crank it up a bit when something I like comes on!!

Although it says 50w per channel, that will be max power, RMS will be about 15w per channel. Theres nothing wrong with using those speakers above with it though, they will sound a lot better than the standard speakers as they're much higher quality.

If you want more performance from them you can always get a 4 channel amp later, that will give them more punch and loudness. Maybe something like this would be ideal: http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/12990.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

i was lead to believe the fronts where 16cm and the backs were 5x7 u can get adaptors for the rears that make them 13cm thou....

I think you're right but 16cm speakers are fairly hard to find I think, its much more common to find 16.5 and 17cm. I installed some 17cm coaxials in my old puma and it was alright, but its not really ideal (not a perfect fit), I think its better to use a 13cm speaker and a thin mdf template if needed.

But I did find some 16cm speakers anyway, so might be a direct fit:
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/jvc-drvn-csv627.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And 17cm version of the alpine:
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-sxe-1725s.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
5x7s from the same site:
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-sxe-5725s.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
13cm Alpine:
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-sxe-1325s.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I wouldn't get the JVC speakers though, I think having all alpines will work nicer, then they will be the same speaker type, and sound similar, it will give a more unified sound if that makes sense.

Doors are 158mm edge to edge, 20W 4 ohm

Thanks guys, i thought from reading other posts that they were 13cm, but there is also other info about them being hard to find, and now it makes sence, the 16cm ones are hard to find so people use the 13cm and adaptors!!

Thanks russv, very helpful!!

Thanks for the info on these guys, ive been truly educated on all things I.C.E!! Brought 300w 3 way speakers for the backs, (cant remember RMS wattage) and 150w 3 way speakers for the fronts (again, not sure on RMS wattage). I hooked the rears up to my 50w max per channel head unit, and they sound worse then the originals, kind of distorted!! :lol: Id normally think id done something wrong here, but thanks to the I.C.E gurus on here, i know my head unit has nowhere near enough power to run these speakers, so ill buy a 4 channel amp to get the best out of them.

So thanks all again for your input! :thumbs:

I've got a Genesis Series III Four channel amp in mine:

It's an absolute beast!! Just as good is the "profile" version which you can fit under the passenger seat - crop up on ebay quite regularly for about a ton. Or you can get them new for about £300.

Oooh, nice! My friend has one he is selling he paid a fortune for, its an 800w blaupunkt amp, with my 4 ohm speakers i think it is 75w RMS per channel, so should be more then i need. Plus my battery is in the boot, so an easier install! I didnt want to go down the amp route, but i love my music too much to have it sounding the way it does!

A good amp is sooo important to the quality of the sound.. all very subjective, but good amps retail FROM £300 + generally speaking...

they loose a stone in value when on ebay...but you take your chances whether they are working 100%.. the seller of course will say it's perfect..lol

Rob's Genny Series 3 is the absolute daddy.. :cool: Iv'e got the neater profile in my two cars.. which packs an awesome punch for it's size matched with decent enough quality... not in the same leaque as the 'distortion free' Series 3 tho.. :)

The Genesis Profile 4's don't usually fetch much more than 100notes on ebay..which is peanuts for such an amp, considering my new one was £300.... Similar powered JL Audio amps are also very nice... Also sme of the old school Infinity stuff is amazing!..the newer models sadly are not..

Ive heard about your audio skills Mr. Dude, if i give you the model number of the amp my mate is selling, could you give me your opinion on it, or anyone else with audio experience? Id rather spend a little more if there is a noticable difference, rather then scrimp on it and just have a so-so sound quality. I dont want to spoend a weeks wages on something, but it its the case of a few extra £'s for a lot better quality amp, then id be daft not to get the better one.

This is the AMP, any info would be much appreciated. http://www.bluespot.co.uk/car-audio.aspx/gta480-amplifier" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

looks quite a tasty spec that does.. :) like the idea of the aux input also :cool:

no idea what the end result would be like tho.... no knowledge of these amps at all...

Ideally spend a day on the front doors and speakers...then another on the rear and amp.... :cool:

Thanks a lot for your opinion, ill probably take him up on the amp, i can always sell it on if i dont like it. im not after a bone shaking system, so that should be plenty.

Mate, if you can get hold of Rockford fosgate 400a4 (like this http://www.google.com/search?q=rockford+fosgate+400a4&hl=en&client=ubuntu&hs=TAG&channel=fs&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=2gB4T4SVIYbl4QSwxoX6Dg&ved=0CFgQsAQ&biw=1151&bih=847" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
I would STRONGLY recommend it. It is an old model (should be more than 10ish now) but it is AMAZING. Very small and compact, loads of power, configurable to match your needs and shouldn't be too expensive. When you are building such a nice car it deserves ICE system to match IMHO....
BUt, be aware! After this model, RF went too commercial and subsequent models are not that good. I would stick to this generation: there are also lesser models (200a4). And don't be fooled: 400a4 is rated at 50 W RMS per channel; but has PLENTY of power
Did find this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rockford-Fosgate-600a4-car-amplifier-/160771491118?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item256eba452e" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It is 4x 75W/channel, from the same family. It is FUNtastic amp, strong, dynamic, excellent. They don't make them like this nowadays.....

Thanks mate, that listing ended by the time i saw it, but ill keep my eye open if one comes up, there seem to be some good deals to be had on ebay.
