Hi guys I've just got myself my first puma and was pretty cheap but has problems one of them being that it sounds like one of the hydraulic tappets may be making this noise as it increases in speed along with the engine speed . Is this a known problem?
Also I was think of doing a engine flush would this help to rectify the fault ?
Thanks
Lewis

Pumas don't have hydraulic tappets so a flush probably won't be much use. Zetec SEs are usually a bit tappy anyway.

It may have the beginnings of a sticking valve. There is also no harm in taking the Rocker off and checking the valve clearances with feeler gauges. As it is a 1.7 , if the clearance are too large a thicker shim will be required for any that are found out of tolerance.

A useful tip,
Before you tackle that, check that the Lambda sensor is still tight in the exhaust manifold ,if it's recently been removed , they can work loose and sound like a noisy tappet
