I need to get some new tyres for my 17s soon.

Been thinking about either Avon ZZ3, Yokohama Prada Spec 2, BF Goodyear GSD1 or some more Toyo T1-S if I can find them.

Best prices I can find are:

Avon - £210 x 4
Yoko - £220 x 4
Goodyear - £420 x 4
Toyo - Can't find :(

Not really that worried about total wet weather performance as I don't drive like a twat in the wet - taking it very easily.
They'll probably only be used spring to autumn as the 15s will go on again for the bad weather. Need to be ok for Nurburgring use as well.

Anyone recommend me anything else or opinions on the above? Ta.

Good luck with the T1S, I really wanted these but no one has them.

I've ordered Goodyear F1 GSD3s- £240 a set fully fitted, 15" size of course :D

Have had these in FRP size and was very impressed with them, better in all respects compared to the factory P7000s in all but ultimate cornering precision.

Chris posted this link in the other forum that you might find useful :D

Hmm - starting to think I'll have to give up with trying to find T1-S. Still got a pair on the back with about 3mm on them and they've been on since May 2007. That's at least 35,000 miles including a weekends abuse at the Nurburgring.

Linky no worky

:(

That will be this one then:

Hmm.. ta for the link Rick - interesting watch.

T1-S were replaced by the better T1-R, which has a similar V-tread pattern but has better reinforcement on the shoulders.

I used to run T1-S all the time, then switched to T1-R and it is a better tyre through the twisties due to the reinforcement.

From what I've heard and read, the T1-R is a replacement for the T1-S, but has had very mixed reviews - mostly saying it's worse than the T1-S ???

Leaning towards the Parada Spec 2s at the moment after reading up on owner reviews with similar cars.

(Not worth comparing some bloke rating on any tyre for a puma if they think they're good / bad on their huge Mercedes or something similar)

I had the Yoko's on my FRP when I bought it.
Part worn. on the front.

They were the worst tyres I have EVER had the misfortune to own :(
In the dry the car followed road imperfections.
In the wet it was deadly.

I really thought I had made a mistake moving from a 1.7 to a FRP as the handling was so bad.

I now have Uniroyle rainmasters on the back and Pirelli's on the front.
Fantastic in the dry, "progressive" in the wet.

Hmm - thanks DB - but then an FRP does 'tram' more than a narrow puma naturally anyway. I was worried about the Parada wet performance being widely reported as 'crap' though..

Still looking at all sorts so any ideas / recommendations are more than welcome!

I splashed out on Michelin PILOT EXALTO from blackcircles.com

I can't really afford / justify £115 a corner though.

:(

Hi,

I've just bought some Goodyear F1 GS D3s for my FRP, got them from http://www.tripleninetyres.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for £270 delivered (not including fitting) - not yet got them on the FRP, waiting the return of painted wheels.

I've used these tyres on my 1.7 for several years, excellent in the dry and wet - until you are down to the pips, then they get very interesting in the wet :p

Mike

Is that for all 4 wheels for your FRP Mike?

Can't get on that link you posted - wants some username and password :(

Autocar did a test a while back and F!'s where the best overall's but some michellin's where the best in the dry but not the wet, cant remember the exact tyre, isnt 'Pilot' their flagship tyre?

I can't get on it either! Try googling them to find a phone number... It worked before Christmas.

Yes! Four tyres, my local dealer quoted £370 fitted for them to supply them.

I tried getting some 195/50 R15 Goodyear GS D3s for my silver 1.7 Puma today - virtually none anywhere in the country: Goodyear have no stock and are back-ordering for people. I managed to get some from http://www.mytyres.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for £51.60 each delivered - not fitted, they supply them direct from Germany.

I had the reverse experience on the FRP. It matched the T1-S perfectly. The T1-Rs just made me wish they'd wear out soon.

I had T1-S's on my Puma when I first got my 17's. These tyres were fantastic in the dry, but you had to be really careful in the wet. After 11k miles, half of them after lowering the suspension, I searched high and low for some more. But they were discontinued in 205/40/17 I was told. So opted for the T1-R's as these were the replacements.

IMO, the T1-S were better in the dry, but the R's are a lot better in the wet. I find that the car (in the dry) tends to slide and feels like its losing grip when pushing hard. But still a great tyre and a hell of a lot safer than the S's in the wet.

Had no experience of the other tyres you mention Dal, but I hope that helps with the Toyo's :eek:k:

Well I've kind of sorted this out. I've bought 4 new alloys with tyres on them!

:D

I've bought these Wolfrace Voodoo 1 alloys that are near perfect. The alloys and tyres have done 500 miles tops and I can well believe it:

2 with Yokohama AVS Sport tyres:

And 2 with Yokohama A539a tyres:

Both virtually new with tons of tread:

How they looked on the previous owners Escort (without centre caps):

The guy has sold his car with different wheels and had them just hanging about. He's going back to Germany next week (in the army) as that's where he lives, so I got them dirt cheap! (Less than the price of 2 of the AVS Sport tyres)

The reviews I've read of both tyres seem to be quite favourable. We'll see how they grip at the weekend. As well as how they suit the puma so whether I strip the tyres off the Wolfraces and onto my multispokes. I've already checked with Dan at Adrian Flux that fitting them won't incur any policy changing as they are exactly the same size as the ones currently insured.

:D

I'll fit them at the weekend, but here's a quick mock up with the manky banger...
