Tyre size

Hi all,
I've got a set of 6 X 16" Fox Evo III alloys, what size of tyre should i put on them? 195/45 or 205/45 ??

if they're 6" then they're the same width as standard alloys so 195/45 will be fine.

I might be wrong, but I think that would affect your speedo reading, As the overall diameter of wheel & tyre would be smaller.

ie 45% of 195 is less than 50% of 195

205/45 would give same diameter as standard, not sure if 205 is too wide for 6" wheels though, maybe one of guys on here could confirm.

But it's going on a 16" wheel, not 15" ;-)

Putting a 45 profile on a 16" wheel will end up with a diameter of wheel/tyre 6mm larger than on 15". Perfectly acceptable.

195/50/15 = 576mm Diameter
195/45/16 = 582mm Diameter (6mm difference)

205/45/16 = 591mm Diameter

HI all I've just had a look at the alloys and they are in fact 6.5 x 16 duh ! so put on the 205/45?

General consensus is to put 195 on 6" (15" standard width) and 205 on 7" (17" normal width)

So having 6.5" - either really. 195 is 7.6" width so will go on as well as 205 which is 8.07"

Just to weigh in. The closest overall diameter to 195/50/15 is 215/40/16. It's about 1.5mm bigger i think. But on my car the speedo overreads by 2mph on the 215s. And i don't think they look too wide. Although the fronts are definitely wider than the rears. I suppose one man's 215 is another's 205. What you get with budget tyres eh.
