I for one think that the good old puma will become a classic car it's got all the right ingredients

Me too. MK1 Fiestas already starting to make good money and Pumas getting scrapped at an alarming rate.

Millie is already a classic, not just because there are so few left but because it is a damn good car in a great colour with a good spec

Sorry to rain on everyones party, but.....

Our beloved Pumas have no heritage...
They were designed on a computer as a one off production run which lasted just a few years
Just for Ford to honour a deal with Yamaha :?

Fiestas, Escorts, Capris etc were developed and evolved over decades, which is why early examples bring silly money

The FRP will always be desirable through exclusivity and the fact its a bloody quick motor..
Maybe when there are a only a handful of cats left they will start to hold their value.
But in truth, its just another (pretty) euro-box...

Dont get me wrong, I LOVE my cat and wont be swapping it till I win the lottery.

But a classic, no!

Being designed on a computer and the Yamaha thing might work in the Puma's favour - it's a different story. I've only read up since getting mine. Looking around to buy one, there seemed to be two distinct groups £300-600 bangers and £1000 plus cars in decent nick (well advertised as such by dealers!)

Hi,
In time I beleve the Puma will become a classic. Heritage plays a part but does not dictate that it will not become a classic. In the past there have been high volume cars that in their time were dogs that still have become classics because of their rareity. Obviously the Puma does not fall into this catagory. Look at the BMC mini over 5 million made lots of weaknesses and always needing servicing and lots of maintainance. What a classic that is. The Puma is an iconic shape, a great car and getting fewer in numbers, all things in its favour to become a classic. This aside another thing to take into consideration is the Puma's following and the enthusiasm of its owners. I think I can come from a different view point to most. I have been driving for 43 years and over those years have seen many cars that had little merit, produced in high volume with little heratige become classics. I belive the Puma is on its way. I might have to give up driving before then (hope not) but I am already treating mine as a classic, it is the most enjoyable car I have or will ever own
This is a topic that has many different view points only time will tell.
Regards
Richard

Agree wholeheartedly with Richard and I think the Puma is already a classic, heritage has very little to do with a car being a classic, take the Morris Marina, Austin Montego, Princess etc etc, heaven help us even a Wartburg is a classic.

Classic cars cover such a diverse range that in reality if you like it, cherish it, polish it etc it is already a classic

Long live the Puma

Hi,
The Allegro is an example, I remember seeing my first Allegro on the first day that the M reg was issued in 1974 as I was following it driving my 1963 Hilman Imp little did I know that they would both be a classic one day.
Regards
Richard.

This is the very reason it will become a classic!! 8)

Actually the first Ford in Britain ever to be designed entirely on computer - I chalk this up as an important milestone, personally.

Don't know about the Allagro being a classic but at least it was useful as it donated it's steering column to Westfields worthy cause, thankfully, minus the steering wheel.
