WOULD A 1.7 PUMA GEARBOX FIT MY 1.4 PUMA?

Gearbox is leaking oil badly so need some advise to get it fixed asap, would a 1.7 puma gearbox fit my 1.4 puma?

Yes it will. However the final drive ratio will be different so you will lose some acceleration and gain some top speed.

does that mean then that a 1.4 gearbox would fit a 1.7 and would mean quicker acceleration but slightly lower top end?

Doing that conversion in a week. Oh Yes!!!!! not sure what the top speed will be though.

let me know how it goes, i think i might be doing it, been looking around and there's no end of cheap 1.4 gearboxes, i'd quite happily loose a bit of top end for quicker acceleration. how often do you really ever get to top out your car...

Really? Wouldnt the 1.4 struggle since the final ratio is too wide?
