Or possibly this one? The day after the truck racing at Brands!

Put me down for either, good price for brands, the general trackday would bring more varied machinery for the pumas to go up ahead.

Still like to do the GT at Bedford beforehand, for anyone interested let us know :eek:k:

I`d love to try Brands out some time.
Its a hell of a trek for me though, so thats a special one to savour..

I`ve started a thread to try to drum up interest in a trackday at Cadwell on Fri 17th October.
For reasons far too boring to list, we will need to book this individually through Mazdaontrack, here is a link to the Meet thread, there is a link for more info/booking on there.

There are only about 12 places left (though I am promised they could "find" some if we book the lot!)

(another) new gearbox fitted at weekend means I am ready for Rockingham on the 24th Aug...

Got to check shifts at work, but probably doing Mon 27th Oct at Brands, if free may pop down to the ford only, however 'single brand' trackdays tend to have an excess of ego, and less talent than general trackdays, we run a forum trackday, but that means than nearly everyone knows everyone else, and is more of a social, with a fair contigent of regular track dayers, who will offer guidance, and we also arrange for 2 instructors to be be available free for tuition all day for anyone who wants it (just grab them, and off you go). On a 'Ford only' day, there are likely to be people who spend lots of money making their cars look fast, but never go on track, when up against another car that looks standard, had peanuts spent on it, but driver has experience, and properly prepared car, Mr 'My car has cost thousands so must be fast' tends to become a hazard to everyone else

May be completely wrong on the ford one, but seeing nearly every other similar trackday being little fun, as you have to drive to avoid the muppets, quick on straights, brake wrong, corner like driving a bus, and then hoof out of corner all out of shape, rather than with 99% driving 'properly'

I'm maybe jumping the gun, seeing that haven't turned a wheel on track yet, but just booked Donington on 26th Oct. Anybody on forum going? Apparently we'll be the 5th Puma attending so far! :)

Hi Stephen, I'm not sure I can make this on, its very close to my Cadwell visit.
Its a pity as I've never been to Donington and have only heard good things.
Here's a tip.
As its your first time out, take advantage of the instructors.
It might cost 20 or 30 quid, but they can show you the differences between track and road driving,
and you'll enjoy the whole experience a lot more...

On a s seperate note...
I had a hoot at Rockingham yesterday.
We were on the National Circuit (there were NASCAR beasts on the oval)
It was sessions, though only 2 groups so 1/2hr sessions, with worked well (no big rush to get on track which causes dangerous traffic)
my group were a 2.0 escort track car, 2.0 MG maestro and clio 182 track car.
All of which were on 888's. (I`m on ex Ginetta Michelin Pilot Sport III`s)
And guess who was quickest

Without doubt, pound for pound, there is no better trackday car than the Puma...

As for the track, its quite technical and not to hard on the car.
Although my repeated attempts to take turn 1, 20mph too fast, means I 'used to have' a splitter...
I really noticed the difference after I had to remove it (in bits), the car didn't feel quite as 'planted' in the fastest parts of the track (80-90mph bends)
I'm sure to replace it, but not a £100 version like the last one (ouch)
and, why is there always a wanker who can't use his mirrors in a £50,000 car?
Should have seen his face when I passed him, going sideways, tyres smoking, in the hairpin...

Oh this is quality
I just found this on YouTube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01rLXf4EOTc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It`s a vid if a whole gaggle of cars (including 2 other pumas and mine, tackling the ££££ dickhead in the white Lotus
Its has great commentary too from 2 young lads
my pass is at 6 mins, but its a great watch throughout

To cap it all, they`re in a Mitsubushi Colt V6,

and they dont catch me

totally agree, especially on first couple of trackdays at very least get a bit of tuition

Goldtrack do 'familiarisation' about 20mins free with an instructor, for anyone who wants it, on our and some other forum and privately arranged trackdays direct with tracks, tuition is free, and is just grab an instructor in the pits

Is anyone doing the croft track days in November or December?
Just looking at doing one to shake down the rally car.
What are the javelin days like?

Graeme

Hi Greame
I wouldnt like to promise anything, but as of yet I dont have any plans for the winter, so I`m possibly free to try Croft
As for Javelin, They seem to be as professional as you could ask, pretty friendly too

some nice driving there Stu - two up as usual?...looked fun but I can't do with the timed sessioned days.

Echo the instructor thing best money you will ever spend. Getting withdrawl symptons especially after going to Oulton Park today to watch the Gold Cup.

Not on track again until November when I'm taking some newbies round and attempting to teach them some of my tricks at Blyton Park

Hi Mick,
I can't say I even got close to getting the hang of it.
But I took your advice on trail braking.
Around the tight stuff it was effective, and spectacular fun
The cars getting some work, so it'll be Cadwell next for me..

good stuff Stu, looks like a good track to practice trailbraking on as there is plenty off run off if you get it too out of shape but the throttle always brings it back. You will be giving me a run for my money at Blyton in November if you get the knack of it..

Cadwell is not as forgiving, if its wet, you will be one of the fastest round there, just remember to feather over the mountain jump...cost us two clutches - love it though, proper challenging circuit, very satisfying getting a good lap in and pushing yourself not to let off or brake at coppice, all depends how much speed you can carry through Barn. Absolutely love barrelling through hall bends too but the hairpin can be tricky in the wet.

If it is wet, just have bags of confidence that it will stick and stick better than most of the other cars on circuit, you will be much faster if you trail brake but dont slide it and it will be awesomely quick round Chris curve and the Gooseneck.

Cheers, that's a nice pocket guide to Cadwell, I really am looking forward to it...
I've plans to whip my motor out to do a couple of fixes and mechanical mods.
I'tll be like being in a different (slightly) car come October.

video guide to a wet Cadwell, best from 5 mins in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ui46VkEt1Lw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hi stu, what splitter did you have and what are you thinking of replacing it with? It's going to be our next upgrade. Been looking at the Richard Mansfield ones, anyone have an opinion on whether these are effective or just aesthetic?

Hi Stephen,
the splitter I had fitted was one of Richards.
It was quite easy to fit (I put a guide on the forum)
It was also very effective, at higher speeds it let me brake harder and the car felt more planted when changing direction at speed.
Into the bargain the car was no faster (flat out) after I removed it. (good aerodynamics)
I would replace ot with another of Richards except my track day adventures are on a tight budget, so I'll probably 'find a plate of 4mm aluminium (roadsign?) and cut it to shape and fit using Richards original fittings.
I'll probably compliment it with a diffuser too...

Cheers for that. I'll drop him a pm see if he's any available. Are you not out now till cadwell in October? It's only 25 miles from me, might well pop over and chill on the veranda
