hi guys been considering a 1.7 swap for a while now, wondering how easy and what parts would i roughly need to get this done? also would it be mostly plug and play or is there gonna be some modifications to deal with? cheers

As far as engine conversions go it'd be reasonably straightforward and [ref]siju[/ref] on here has completed it.

Take a look at these threads

and similar but 1.6 to 1.7 (basically the same question)

Hi I just saw the thread. It's a relativley easy swap if you have some small spannering experience. It was the first (and only one) I did. It's been some years but as far as I remember you neeed engine, engine loom, driver side engine mount, 1.7 airbox. 1.7 gearbox is optional but in my opinion suits the car better. It has longer 1st-2nd, the same 3rd and shorter 4th and 5th.

In general it's a case of unbolting the the engine-gearbox and swap the new ones in and the most difficult part is the loom and ECU change. You need to drill out one ECU rivet which is a bit put of sight. Also pay attention to a wire that goes to the rear ABS sensors and is part of the engine loom (so you have to change that with the one from the new loom). I'm not sure but there might be also the wire for the fuel pump to change.

Have a look at the threads that @red mentioned. Also there's a nice guide in an old Fast Ford magazine. They had swapped a 1.7 engine in a mk5 fiesta that had originally a 1.6 engine. But it's virtually the same swap. I got some good help from this.

Good luck and feel free to ask anything.

P.S. The funny thing is that now I have changed again my 1.7 engine with a buit 1.6 which is also getting a rotrex supercharger. But now this is mostly done by a friend who has a Ford workshop.

Alex
