hi my gear lever is kinda floppy lol, it doesnt return to neutral if i push it towards the left or right, does anybody know any ways of fixing this apart from buying a whole new linkage cos it costs about 125 which is quite a bit

There's a return to centre spring which is probably knackered or broken.

Can't remember much about it though at this hour.

underneath the car, remove exhaust heat shield. at 3 and 9 o'clock positions on the linkage box there are torx bolts, undo them, remove spring, stretch it, replace.

that will sort the side to side movement

front to back has no spring so prob a case of corrosion / old grease on the rod where it enters the plastic linkage box

cheers jacko, i`ll do it 2mrw, hopefully i`ll be able to order it and get it sent down on the same day, these ford stockist are usually very efficient

hey jacko i think my linkage box is different to the one ur explaining, i removed the heat shield, then i see a black plastic box undid the 2 10 mm bolts dropped the box slightly undid the 2 8mm bolts den opened up the box, all i see is on the gear lever side is like a nylon bush with a rubber around it that slides into the linkage side, there's no signs of a spring anywhere

er.....!

should be some plastic widgets rubbing against the nob, they have springs behind them....and a bolt behind that (outside), can be grubby.....

Also a spring in gearbox that causes this fault. if that is broken. then you will need the box stripped and the spring replaced.

o i c so there is a spring in the gearbox, a few ppl told me that there isnt lol, o wells i kinda bodged it up now anyways used a spring attached from the body to the linkage keeping it in position, working fine at the moment, but do you think it`ll lead to any problems from doin this?

Can we have a piccie of this? did you take any piccies inside the linkage box?

there is deffo no return spring in the gear stick lever

the spring resistance is felt via the selector mech in the box being spring loaded
