I'm in the process of swapping my front subframe because rust has got into the offside front lower bit. I decided to take the Hammer of Truth to the old one which has revealed some serious rot - definitely an MoT fail.
Anyway I'm mainly posting this because I've not seen anyone else's Puma rust here. Might be worth checking yours next time you're underneath.
My theory is that mine was a 'Friday afternoon' subframe from the supplier, and wasn't painted properly in this area. Hope yours is sound, because changing it isn't a trivial job!
As an aside, I used to be intimately involved with this subframe when I worked at Ford as a test engineer. Remember the Ikon? It was a Fiesta saloon made in India for Indian market only. It used this subframe but manufactured locally. It was my job to rig test them and then look for cracks. From memory the Indian ones were all pretty sturdy.
