Hi there. i am looking at upgrading my lights on my puma to HIDs. Ive been told to get HB3 HID and have found some on ebay but am not too sure what im actually buying.....oopps. erm....if anyone has brought some from ebay or anything it would be great if you could send the link or something. thanks very much,
Lisa x

TBH, I wouldn't get HiD myself as the lens arrangement in a Pumas headlights isn't really suitable.

Best off making sure your plastic cover is clean inside and out and get some good quality replacement bulbs. Your current ones may be 10 years old now, so new ones could improve matters no end.

Mixed topic really Lisa... Hi by the way, great to see ANOTHER local member about the place!

Because the headlamp assembly isn't E marked for HID use it's technically illegal to retro-fit them.

However many people have and they've not had problems passing MOTs provided they are adjusted correctly and not blinding everyone.

As Dal says you can really improve the light through by ensuring the lamp units are clean, scratch free, correctly adjusted and using new bulbs as obviously if the bulbs are old then they'll have deteriorated over time.

A couple of people here recommend these bulbs:

hey, thanks guys. you've been helpful....x
now im trying to get quotes for a cambelt change :(
god cars cost so much.
:) got to love them though.

Appologies to Lisa for butting in to her thread...

But, I'm also thinking about changing my bulbs as I don't know when they were last changed and would prefer them to be a little brighter if possible :)

If I purchased the ones suggested by Red would they be hard to change? As I'm not very techy when it comes to cars and with being a newby Puma owner I have no idea about the layout of the car yet.

Cheers,

Lawrence

Lawrence,

The bulbs aren't overly difficult to change, i'd never pay someone to do it and would say people should give it a go before considering letting someone else do it.

It's literally a few screws, pull the head lights out, unclip the back, this gives access to the bulbs then swap the ones you need to.

There'ss probably better info about but thats a quick summary.

I wouldnt get those 'HID' bulb on ebay that are selling for around a fiver. They are not HID buld, but just normal bulbs with a blue/white tint to them. They are very poorly made too, had a set fitted on my old car, and they blew withing 2 weeks. Bought another set, they blew within a week. Just went back to the old bulbs in the end.

Proper HID kits can cost up to 200 notes and you need the right sort of headlight units for them too, which the puma does not have. I wouldnt bother myself. Just get some nice new bulbs (the super bright ones from halfrauds aint bad) and make sure the lens/plastic covers are nice and clean.

To Lawrence, changing bulbs is easy really. Get the bonnet up, and remove the front grill (about 4 screws i think) then each headlight unit is another 3 screws i think. Whip out the whole headlight unit and replace bulb. All done.

To clean the inside of the lights is a pain though, there is no easy way to get into them.

My kit cost about £50 from Ebay with 6000K bulbs.
Here's a good comparison of Two FRP's parked with the lights on.
One has Halfruads Super bright bulbs, the other is mine with HID's

Not really much of a contest really. :p
This is the BEST mod I have done to any of the three Puma's I have owned.
I just wish I had done it to all three, not just my current one.
