Key Fob Boot Button

When we got the car, the fob didn't work so we replaced the battery and reprogrammed it to the car and we were away!

I'm not sure if I'm missing something but I can't seem to get the boot button to do anything. I've tried a quick press and I've tried holding it down but no noise, no nothing. What am I looking for? Is this a common fault?

Is it only my fob that can be a little temperamental too? It doesn't always respond on the first button press...
