Left Indicator Self Cancelling

Hi All,
Sorry if this has been posted before but I've just noticed that my left indicator doesn't self cancel as it should, the right one works perfectly. Is this a common fault?
Any ideas?

Yes. Self-cancel mech has failed. It's inside the indicator and wiper stalks assembly.

If you remove steering column shroud (5 screws around cowl) you can remove it without removing the steering wheel. It's held in by one bolt from memory.

You can take your chances on a used part and hope it doesn't have same fault. Worked for me! Note that other Ford models used similar assembly eg Fiesta and Escort, I used an Escort one without a problem.

I think a brand new part is in the region of £45 from memory, don't quote me though.

This ^^ although I'm not sure about compatibility between all of the years? Sounds like it might be ok from what grogee has said but I know some years had the intermittent adjustable washer setting and others didn't.

This happened on my puma last year the left indicator stopped cancelling, I purchased another second hand part from eBay last year and that worked fine, until a few weeks ago, that has now also stopped cancelling on the left indicator.
