i wont be going mad at the front. the last few meets have been much nicer with everyone together going at a steady rate rather than people bombing off & the group getting split up....

please also remember my old army top tip....

'keep an eye on the person BEHIND you; if you loose them then slow down or stop at the next junction. if everyone does this eventually the person at the front stops too, if we all stop at (or before) junctions we know which way the person in front went and can show the person behind!

i have NEVER lost anyone doing this; it really is a top technique for group driving

Indeed, that's a top tip Jacko.

I've done a few meets leading from the front and I've never lost anyone taking that methodology.

Take your time : it's not a race.

It's handy having at least one Millie in the group as it's so easy to see for reference. I'd say Cherie should go about a 1/3 from the front. That way people ahead can see the leader and those behind can see her way ahead.

Yes if everyone was nice and kept the person behind them in their sights, no-one would get lost. Unfortunately this never seems to happen at meets! Also, lights on helps :D

I like being near the front behind a wide-arse Puma myself :p

DEfinitely a good technicque so long as everyone sticks to it :)

I remember when we went for the extra drive at the notts meet last year. I hung back on the bike to let people see where we were going then had to hit silly spped to try and catch up the one in front of me again. A lot of luck was involved though I seem to remember ;) :)

You mean the junction after the right hand bend?

The traffic ment people got held back out of the junction and nobody waited. Was only you stopping on the roundabout that saved the day!

I don't think that wasn't even the extra drive, that was part of the 'route', and the bit of road we're waiting on, we were only on because the leader had missed the turning and had to double back.

With no route planned anywhere other than in the organiser's head, and no directions, we would have been utterly lost if Paul hadn't come back for us. I was at the front of the group, and I had no idea where we were going, just put my foot down as we tried to play catch up to people who had no interest in waiting for the rest of the group.

He still maintains to this day that he's never lost anyone on a meet, and I've corrected him on more than one occasion, but his ego is such that he won't be told.

That said though, that is the only time I've been so lost, I've not known where I was going. There was me, Elvin and a couple of others got separated from the main group on the last Leicester meet. Somehow we managed to get to the final meet point before everyone else! But because we had postcodes and directions, we were never truly lost.

Worst case scenario and you get completely separated from the group, make sure you've got at least a couple of phone numbers (Ben's and Jacko's are on the directions) and someone will come and find you.

Yep, I remember getting lost on the first Leics meet - I have no idea how we managed to get separated!

it won't happen - stick with me Carol!

there is generally some event that everyone at a meet remembers eg at the last Leics meet Jacko had an intimate affair with a pigeon; at the Notts meet last year... well, let's not go there

at the Leics meet last year 3 people went into the wrong lane and went straight on at a set of traffic lights instead of turning left - that is why they got separated - the fact that it happened about 300 yards from the start is what made it so funny!

At the Notts meet last year Ben had an intimate affair with a pile of poo (and after the tractor incident, but for the grace of god, we all could have done!!) :D

I think you had to be there Carol. ;) I'm sure by this time next week, we'll be laughing about something that's happened on Saturday.
