Manual steering ??

I'll admit this is probably a stupid idea, but having driven a fiesta XR2 for the last 20 odd years heavy low speed steering doesn't bother me.

My P reg Puma has a leak from the pump or steering rack ( not checked yet) so I am wondering if a manual mk4/5 fiesta rack will fit. I've never messed with power steering stuff but I s'pose it can't be that hard, but I though a manual rack would be maintenance free and perhaps free up a bit of engine power as its not turning a pump.
