remote locking problems

Having remote locking problems with my new puma (1998). Have tried a few things as follows but it's still not working.

Car has been to Pumabuild - they took a quick look and confirmed it wasn't the key/fob. I have tried swapping the infrared modules from inside the car for a definite working one and still no joy.

Also tried fuse no 44 which relates to central - the fuse is fine :-(

The next thing on the list was the central locking module that is located in the drivers footwell under the carpet. Have tried a known working one from another car - it doesn't work in mine but what I was wondering was does this need to be programmed to the key to work??

Any technical/electrically minded people out there that can help me get this working please?! :-(

I'd take it to any auto-electrician as the next step.
