Hi, I've tried searching but can't really find what I'm looking for. In the quest to save weight I'm wondering if its worth removing the ABS and what kind of job it is?

Can anyone that has done this let me know what's involved and if there's much weight to be saved?

Thanks as always.

Scott

Modulator is 8kg or so, I did it on my track car just so it felt a bit nicer and it makes stuff like fitting the beam spacers a bit less of a faff, weight saving is marginal.

Thanks Ian. We're removing the air con, so thought we might as well do this while we're at it. 8kg is better than I thought actually.

What kind if job is it?

I re-piped the whole thing inside, car was MOT fail on the pipes anyway, can be a bit scary thinking you need to get it right but its not as big a job as you might think. Just have all the fittings and a flaring tool, something to bend the pipes with, bit of patience, enough spare pipe to throw away any that don't quite come out right and you'll be sound.

Thanks again. That's given me some more ideas now ... I could include a bias valve if I'm running the pipes through the car!lol.
Cheers.

Actually, do you happen to have any stock of the power steering pump and pipes needed when removing the air con? I've been told Fiesta mkIV bits are needed to replace mine?

You'll almost certainly need a bias valve, I tried it without one and it tried to kill me on the test drive.

Got PAS for non air con, bits off a non-air con Puma should be OK. Fiesta bits are normally when you remove the PAS as well because you need another tensioner I think.

you can do it without changing the tensioner as i did with my conversion in my fiesta i used a fiesta zetec s pas pump with bracket and zs non ac aux belt and im guessing youll need a zs pas pipes aswell to get it to work properly also if your removing your ac modifications will have to be made to your cooling fan system to get it to come on when the engines too hot which i have still yet to do lol

How did you get on with removing the abs from your car? I'm currently thinking about this and looking for some advice and what bits I need.

Cheers

Anyone gone down the mk1 mondeo servo and master cylinder route when removing the abs? Have those who've done it just 't'd off the existing ports or fitting a different master cylinder?

Hi guys. I haven't got round to doing this yet. Still on the lit of things to do!
Interested in the replacement master cylinder. What's the benefits of that Stumc?

Well a master cylinder and servo from a none-abs mk1 mondeo has four ports so you can run a separate like per corner as it should be, rather than T'ing off a single port for each axle. Also they help increase braking force as the servo is bigger and master cylinder presumably. Common ish mod to earlier fiestas and escorts.

Thanks Stu. That is interesting and I will keep it in mind when looking again at my brakes, although I thinking about a pedal box with remote reservoirs, so depends which route I take with it. If you do this mod on yours, let us know and get plenty of pictures up so we can all see ho you did it.

Yeah will do, there really isn't a lot to it though. When I did it to my old xr2i I just had to open up the holes on the bracket that the servo bolts to. the bolt pattern was ever so slightly different, but slightly bigger holes have enough slack to fit it on. Probably be something similar with the puma.

all the info you need is in the s1400 rally build manual....i happen to have 2 available! £15 plus a fiver postage. about 100 pages of info
