Hi new to this site so bear with me. I had my keys in the ignition when I pushed the open boot button, nothing happened so took keys out ignition and tried again still nothing happening put the key in the boot lock to try it manually still nothing. That's the first time I ever tried opening the boot with key in ignition ,know I should not have tried that. Previous to this i,ve never had problem opening the boot. The model is a 1.6 2001 Y reg. black Puma. Any help much appreciated.

It won't open with the ignition on but it should operate as normal with the key out.

Could try a reprogram - cycle the ignition on and off quickly until you hear a beep and then press any of the buttons. Indicators will flash and its done.

thanks for that :) but to no avail . reprorammed as advised and everything happened as you said but still not opening boot, i changed the fob batterry and reprogammed again, still not opening. Using the key in the has no effect either, just wondering if theres an inline fuse to the boot mechanism maybe ?

You need to push the boot open button twice in quick succession. That's how mine works.

Pull back the carpet on the left side on the rear of the boot, you'll see an orange wire with a black tracer in a single plug. Unplug that, top is car side, bottom is the solenoid. You'll see it joins with the black earth wire which is bolted to the panel. Either unbolt that and put 12v across the two wires, or leave it bolted and run a battery live to the orange/black wire and that will trigger your solenoid. If it triggers then something else is afoot. Or it not then the solenoid itself has failed. Not sure which fuse its on but I'd rule that out first. Thinking probably GEM but you'd lose loads of other stuff like rear fog and all the remote locking if that goes.

Hi think I found the correct wire where you said it would be. there was 3 wires connected to a plug ,I stripped a bit off the orange /black and run a wire from battery + to it , sparked a bit but nothing else . Managed to get the boot opened though by pulling on the hinge cable . Where would I find a wiring diagram to make sure I have identified the right cable .

Its the wrong plug then, its a single wire going in, the plug and a single wire coming out.

Its on the left side of the boot under the carpet.

Shouldn't need to strip anything - unplug it and poke your 12v pos down the hole.

Hi couldnt find that plug Iain ,all three wires from the one i was at lead to the boot lock and solenoid, anyway i manually moved the cable pulley back and forth a few times and turned the key in the lock a good few times squirted lots of lubricant in both parts and the latch and hey presto the solenoid kicked in ,a bit sluggish it sounds like but working now never the less. Thanks for all your help, would have been lost without you . bobby a

I had a new head unit fitted today and my RCL stopped working. It would lock and unlock and arm and disarm the alarm using the key in the door but didn't want to know remotely. I reprogrammed using the above method of key fiddling in the ignition and all works fine again now. Many thanks :eek:k:
