'The light' hasn't been on much, has it?!

I used to get around 36 on a tank. Best I had was about 42 on a long Eco run.

Nothing entirely positive unfortunately. Sat nav has packed in, and it needs a new clutch slave cylinder.

It's taken the edge off enjoying the car if I'm honest. I'd hoped buying from a main dealer that everything would bloody work, and I didn't have to use half my leave booking days off to get stuff fixed. :|

That's what I'm still waiting to hear. They've said they'll do the sat nav so far, but I'm still waiting to hear on the clutch.

I'm just a bit cheesed off as I wanted a car I didn't have to spend ages faffing around with, at least for a while anyway. The last three cars I had were constantly to and from specialists for various things, and I didn't want to do that this time. I've already had to waste two days leave just for fault diagnosis.

Nice,

How are you finding it? The one complaint I can I have is the ride is so firm, fine when your hooning about but sometimes I wish it was just a bit softer.

Heres mine might inspire you a bit!

I'm with you on the ride actually. It's fine when you're on a relatively smooth road, but I do a drive down bumpy country lanes twice a week and I'm getting pretty tired getting jiggled and jolted all over the place. It's actually harder than the FRP - there doesn't seem to be any compliance in the suspension at all.

I'm still glad I got the car (it was an itch I really needed to scratch), but I do think it's a flawed package. At this minute in time, I don't think it'll be a keeper.

*Expects a "What car should I get next?" thread*

You need to bring it round mate!

I know what your saying I reckon it would be more comfortable if it was on coilovers.

I do love mine though, more the way it looks as opposed to the way it drives.

Yep, the interior is pretty special, especially at night with the sat nav/MP3 screen set to red to match the rest of the interior illumination.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there about the looks and drive. I still think my little Clio had the best ride/handling compromise. The Civic is just HARD all of the time.

Yup,

Especially when at the time of development there was active suspension available my father in laws 07 Mk5 GTI at the time had the sports suspension button something like that in the civic would of been perfect, hard when you want it, soft when you need it!

An observation from another forum is that coilovers on the 8G Civic don't make it more plush. The reason is that the ones normally suggested replace the top mounts with a metal fitting..

I agree though it's a flippin hard ride, especially when you're a passenger. That's why I had to swap... to a CR-V!

As is customary for all recent cars I've owned - the addition of a Pistonheads smiley :D

In other news, the clutch master/slave cylinder have been replaced under warranty so the clutch pedal no longer squeaks, creaks and groans, and the sat nav unit has been removed and sent back to Alpine for repair. Turnaround time... three weeks :-(

The ride however, is still getting right on my tits. Take the FRP ride, multiply it by two, and you're about there. There really is no need for it to be that jiggly, so much so that every passenger I've had has commented on how awful it is.

The sat nav and voice activation now works again!

In other news, I'm looking to replace the tyres this month. I was originally going to just do the fronts (as the Honda dealer replaced them with budget Nexen rubbish before I collected the car), but after reading rubbish reviews on the standard fit Bridgestone Potenzas, I think I'm going to replace all four with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetrric 2's. They get good reviews in the civic community, and on Tyre Reviews. They're also supposed to improve the ride as well - the Bridgestones have particularly solid sidewalls. Hopefully I'll be able to claw a bit of money back by flogging the budgets on eBay - they've only done 4000 or so miles anyway.

The other job for the month is to get all the parking dings I seem to have acquired over the past month fixed as well.

A possible later job is to have the 'fast road' geo set up done at Wheels in Motion - it's said to transform the handling.

It does! It should also help to even out tyre wear so get I'd get it done ASAP if you can.

Car park dings are the bane of the nice car owner. Part of why I got the puma was that it 'wouldn't matter'.

Tell me more about this fast road setup, I could do with something to improve the handling of the Civic, it feels very naturally understeery which is fine for normal driving but it doesnt inspire confidence when you push on.

Ive been looking through ebay at a few mods, an induction does look tempting for me, just to hear all the vtecs better!!

Oddly I have started to bond with mine, I didnt think I would but its starting to win me over... Might treat it to a service and a new set of boots in the spring!
