It was 1967. I was walking through what has now become known as Liverpool 8 with my best mate Pete Gowan. His dad had a Cortina Mk1 1200, I had a Ford Consul Mk11 drophead. We dreamed of huge V8s, drag strips, and listened to the Beach Boys. We organised ad hoc drag races on the road to the beach from Freshfield station which he always won because the 1200 had a four speed box and though I was gaining on him, at the 1./4 mile he was invariably ahead.

We heard this noise and span round, there was this squashed Volkswagen looking thing, we both yelled "911!" and watched it pass open-mouthed.

As I watched it disappear I had only one thought.

I want one.

Forty odd years on and.....

2000 1.4 Puma in Panther Black

Love:

The Looks
Cornering Ability
The alloys really suit the car
fuel economy is fantastic
That gearchange

Hate:

The rust
HCV
Brake pipes
stone chips, dents, scratches, scrapes
The jobs list is piling up more than I can afford to fix it
Tracking is still out
Desperately needs a 6th gear
Fogging up lights
Only half of the heated front window works - the passengers side at that
BAckbox is blowing
Spare wheel is stuck on the hub
Sometimes a pain in the arse to start

All in all, whilst the driving is something to be savoured and enjoyed, the ownership has left me feeling a little bit empty. Not sure if I want to own this car much longer. :'(

HATE

the seats
the rust
THE CAR IN GENERAL
the parts are expensive

GOOD

the sound system
the styling at the front rank at the back thats it

i would have done better not buying it

Hello o/

I (still!) drive a 98 Puma in Panther Black.

Love:
Handling
Cornering at excessive speed
Accelerating up to 30mph in second and popping it straight into 4th :p
Looking at the dots in my rear view mirror ^^
Acceleration in second ^^
The 17 inch alloys

Hate:
Servicng
MOT
****ing rust :|
The **** hit hit the drivers side leaving a £400 dent
Road noise
My next car is probably going to be a Prius

The most amazing driving experience of my life was driving from the East coast over the Penines to Keswick. Most people would take the A road, but not me. I went over the Penines... I don't think I'll ever expereince anything like that drive ever again :p

My 1999 1.7 Puma - Silver

Love...

the sporty yet un-garish looks
handling
the rev happy engine :)
decent economy (just reign in your right shoe a little)
gear box
engine note
great heater
the sweet feel you get by giving it the beans in the lower gears, usually when some chav is trying to race you in a knackered Escort, Golf, Corsa etc

Hate...

the sudden exhaust rattle that has started kicking in between 2000-2300 revs (if anyone knows how to fix it please let me know).
the unforgiving ride if u so much as look at an uneven surface
rusts too easily
a bit noisy on the motorway
very unresponsive at low engine speeds

Exhaust rattle could be a loose exhaust rubber hanger or even one of your exhaust heat shields. Give the hangers a check to see they're actually holding the exhaust and if it's one of your heat shields then either try to get it tack welded back into place or rip the bugger off!! ;)

Thanks for your help although it has transpired that the source of the rattle isn't the exhaust after all.

I had the bonnet up and noticed a slight clicking sound at idle speed. It seemed to be coming from under the plastic cover immediately to the left of the engine. I got my mate to rev the engine to the right speed and the clicking sound became one hell of a rattle. I removed the cover and the noise was unmistakeably coming from one of the wheels that the cam belt goes round. I guess the bearing(s) is on it's way out :-(

However there is a hint of good news as I had already put money aside for a new cam belt kit as Im approaching 80k on the clock. Hopefully the cam belt change should sort the noise issue out once and for all.

Only had Puma Baby since Tuesday but here goes ....

Love

The look, she is one beautiful car, still at the gazing adoringly through window stage
The sound she makes on the road
Having shuffle mode on CD player
Seeing people looking her over as I drive past ( change from my battered Renault Laguna lol )
All the silver trims inside the car
The high small boot
This website even though my mates are calling me an anorak cos I'm beginning to get OCD

Hate

The parcel shelf ..... but will sort that
That I had a flat battery on day 2
My fuel gauge where empty is actually the notch above empty

thats it so far but sure will be more as I get to know her better
