Cool I will have to try this.

I was thinking about getting a lenght of welding rod,attach the wire to it and poke it through the gromit.

I poked it with a thick copper wire. Just to made a hole, actually, and then slowly forced the cable through it. It was tight, but doable. I thought it might be better to keep it tight and would be easier to reseal it all back later. I used a loctite stuff that had lying around
