Hi, I currently have the 3 button fob for my puma, but that's all I have. I want basically the same again (another 3 button fob which controls the RCL and will start the car using the key)

I asked at ford but they said I'd need to buy 2 more fobs/keys aswell as the 1 I have, then they would use a computer to programme them.

I'm wondering if anywhere else would be able to do this as otherwise this'll be expensive! Plus I only want 1 more fob, not 2 as Ford say I need.

Thanks! Chris.

I tried the same but I ended up having to go to Fords! They r the only ones that can do it and u can be sure that it won't stuff up all your locking system. Someone else might know better by now but that was nearly 2 years ago. Hope that helps

If you want to do it DIY, you need 2 different keys that will start the car before you can reprogramme one yourself. Otherwise it's a Ford job.

Other specialists may be able to do it, but as you say Cher, Ford are best really as if they screw it up, they can put it right.

Oh, so basically it's gonna be expensive! So if I buy a key with the 3 buttons on it from ebay theres NO way I could get that programmed to work using my current key? Surely there must be a way!!!

Not without a Ford computer you won't. Or else it'd be easy for car thieves to just make a key wouldn't it?

Another option is to get a horse shoe blade cut at a Ford garage for under a fiver.
Buy a 3 button fob off ebay (anywhere between £5- £20)
then call out one of them mobile locksmith guys to Program the key to your immobilizer (i was quoted £30 for this doing)...
if they charge extra for programming the remote central locking side of it just follow the instructions on here.
Once you got 2 keys you can program more fully working ones yourself.

the ford dealers quoted me £80 for a standard non-button key which would only start the engine, and £155 for a fully working remote c/l key

I cut a spare key today at fords at £3.89 :) (the blade only, not the entire key) at least I dont have to worry about worn keys in future as it is quite cheap to replace the key blade.

Hi
Can you let me know how you get on as I have only one key...the original, I presume.. with only 2 buttons on it & wanted to get another.
I have also been looking at the info on E Bay for 3 button keys & for buying new blades & there's even a guy who says he will sell you the info on how to reprogramme a new key yourself for 99p!
Cheers

Unfortunately, as you only have one key, the most reliable way of getting another is to grit yuor teeth and go to a Ford garage. They charge a fair bit: £80 at last reckoning, but it'll need programming to to the in-built immobiliser to work.

A blade key can be cut by any key cutter, but it'll only open the doors.

We have a guide for reprogramming a remote fob >here< you don't need to buy it. ;)

The two button and three button remotes are completely different and can't be interchanged. The two button is infrared and the three button radio.

Oh really!
So I can't buy one of the 3 button remotes off E Bay & then programme it because my original is a 2 button? Have I got that right?
You say Ford's have to programme the key in order to overide the immobiliser and start the engine?
I can programme it for remote locking, yes?

Unfortunately not :(

The 2 Button and 3 Button remotes work completely differently.

The 2 Button remotes were found on earlier models which had Infrared wireless control whereas the 3 Button remote uses Radio Frequency and hence the two are incompatible.

Is it me, or is that what Cherie just said?

:p

Hey, I'm just glad someone is trying to help!!

So the bottom line is I am going to have to bite the bullet and go to Ford for a 2 button remote key in order to have a spare that will overide the immobiliser, have I got that right?
Looks like I need a cambelt change so should I ask them about that as well as was reading threads saying that some smaller independent mechanics don't have the right 'tools'????

Yes - unless your close to Pumabuild or Pumaspeed as they can probably do it.

They might have the right tools for a std 1.7 as they're not that uncommon. If your not sure, then go to Ford in my opinion or th etwo specialists listed above.
