Hi,

New to the forum and new to Puma's, Wanted a car that I could use to get to work and with some mild mod's the occasional track day as local to Brands Hatch so the Puma fitted the bill, Found a car that was structurally in good condition, wheel arches, floor etc all good, The car would not idle properly but put this down to the usual ICV or Maf sensor, Engine is smooth once above idle and seems to have plenty of power, Got it home and cleaned both sensors to no avail, replaced both with parts from a working car and still the same, It starts up first turn and idles perfectly for about 5 mins then dies as soot as you hit the gas at all it will then fail to idle again unless left for a while, anyone had similar problems, I have ordered an obd reader however there are no management lights showing, Checked spark at all plugs was wondering if fuel pump could cause this. any help appreciated as it's driving me nuts

if you have another car you can temporarily swap parts off the first thing I would try would be the coil pack, could be breaking down as it gets warm. also could be fuel filter, they are cheap and it wont hurt to put a new one on anyway :)

Cheers forgot to mention, Did the coil pack, Unable to use the other car now as it's owner has gone home for the week, I did suggest him leaving the car and getting a train but he wasn't very keen, lol Where is the filter on these near the engine bay or fuel tank, I have the engine coming out in 2 weeks for new belt, tensioners, W/pump clutch etc but want to make sure it's all good before fitting loads of new parts

filter is tucked up behind the fuel tank.

you can see it in this pic (silver cylinder thingiy lol)

Fuel filter OK, Just taken it to running temp, Ticked over no problem, nice and smooth until throttle blipped and then dies, couple of times it's caught it at very low revs and pulled back to idle then sits there no problem until blipped again, Could it be the lamba sensor?

more things to check. spark plugs pull them out see what colour they are and if the white porcelain is cracked, ht leads check for splits etc and throttle position sensor see if you can steal your friends to double check its not that.

Check the switch on top of the clutch pedal is still connected, check the wires to the power steering sensor arent broken, check there isnt a missing or cracked rubber nipple thing on the front of the throttle body and check for any leaks on the vacum hose to the servo.

This thing where its ok for five minutes and then doesnt idle is possibly down to the car running on what Im going to call archived settings till its warm and from then on it uses its various sensors to control stuff.
