Nipped out this morning and grabbed a grinder. Thought I would set about the rear arches.

Here is the outcome after a few minutes:

So my question is:

Should I stick or Twist?

Stick with it or strip down and sell for parts?

If you have read my thread, then you will know that I have had no end of trouble since the first minute of getting it. I'm not feeling the love for this car at the moment and neither is my wallet.

Have a look at this: http://www.escortevolution.co.uk/forums/topic/149919-escort-rs2000-4x4-20-turbo-conversion/page-6" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Scroll down and then read and read and read…. Might give you some inspiration

Thanks man.

This guy has obviously alot more money to pile in to his project and more knoweledge and tools.

To be fair, he has got an RS2000 not a Puma.

Thank you though. I think my mind is almost made up to break it down and try and claw some cask back.

Ouch. I'm in no position to comment. There aren't many good ones around from what I can see, if you did cash your chips in. It's unlikely that any one you look at has had the internal rust proofing re -done early enough in life to prevent the rot to some extent.

Hey Skippy.

Thats the problem. No decent ones around, and if there were any, you would pay through the nose for one.

Contemplating going down the Puma/Fiesta route or just for kicks the PumaKa route. Would rather the Puma route, but what can I do.

I may just leave the engine in the car for now, and get that running right then source a shell.

SportKa is a fun little car. They still have corrosion issues though.

Bloody typical.

Thought the SportKA was a 1.6 as opposed to the KA with puma engine?

Could be fun project though

Come buy my 65k low mileage project, its in the for sale section, 1.7 low mileage 65k fsh

Has no rear arch rust! New clutch, new cambelt, just needs a new head

Filler cap and sills on Ka. My mate has an 08 which on some respects it's worse than the puma. I didn't think the Ka ever came with the 1.7. The SportKa has tweaked suspension and faster rack as well as bigger wheels IIRC. VERY chuckable if not actually quick.

Thanks for the offer Adam, but I don't have another £500 to throw at this project.

Spent nearly a grand on the puma, then had to spend another £900 for the KA our lass is driving.

Seen the puma too, looks in good nick.

Thanks mate. I would have loved to. You could have had an engine including head and gearbox off ebay. I won it for £31, but couldn't get down to pick it up. You could buy that and pop the head straight on.

Hi Simon
Sorry to see the pictures of your car, especially with all the problems you've had to wade through already. If you've got loads of tax and test on it I would be tempted to just glass the back arches up and then run it to MOT time and then decide what to do with it then.

Hi Barry.

Thank you.

We have tax till end of June and MOT till beginning of Jan (I honestly have no idea have this thing passed an MOT).

We have swapped insurance over to KA already. So going to cash tax in I think. £40 back there. Thinking strongly about keeping the engine and trying to source a KA in good nick. I have however spotted a 51 plate Thunder untouched in a scrap yard in Hudds with what look like spotless arches. Might have a nip in and see what he would take for it.

Hi Simon
I think someones already said this on this posting but I think Ka and Fiestas both rust as badly as Pumas. Just be careful if you want to buy another as someone could have had the arches bodged and re-sprayed but the inner sills. outer sills and rear chassis rails could be badly rotten. If it's in a scrapyard you've got to ask yourself why it's there.

Hi Barry.

Fair comment about the KA & Fiesta.

Just feeling like I have been cheated and missed out, I really do. I wanted to put the engine to good use, but starting to run out of ideas.

I had allsorts of plans for Jade.

I know what your saying about it being in a scrapyard. Im wondering if it could be there for engine failure, which I could live with. Rotten body/chassis definately no.

I would have been interested in Adampumas extra motor if it wasn't for distance and lack of funding now.

I know it's not much help now but the advice I would give to anyone thinking of buying a Puma would be to buy the lowest mileage, youngest, least owner car that you can find. Then get it on a four poster before you buy it and have a good poke about underneath... or take up welding. After working on mine for over a year now I've a good idea where they rot and I'd say everywhere apart from the front end which doesn't seem too bad.
