right changed thermostat and changed coolant, now has halfords advanced coolant 2 litres and 4 litres of water, bled system throughly. when i pull car up im still hearing gurgling in the expansion cap.

I set the digital dial to read engine temp and driving along the temp rises to around 104c-105c for about 5 mins then starts shooting up to 114-115c.

Will a HCV really cause these issues im gettin?

well i have just been out to look at my hcv valve and the part number is:

98FU18495AB. now this is apparently the dreaded one that causes mass overheating. are my symptoms indicative of the HCV failing?

cheers

For the sake of what it'd cost, fit another one so you stop worrying it's that.

:eek:k:

what part or action of the faulty hcv causes it to make the car overheat then?

im curious from a design point of view.

cheers

In my experience either the motor stops working, or the plastic becomes brittle from the heat and breaks apart, causing leaks.

hi just been looking at the posts on here and i have the same problem. can any1 give me advice on how to sort it? thanks

The first thing we had to check was the Thermostat - as ours wasnt opening properly when it needed to , second thing we did was replace the HCV as ours was the 'blacklisted' one and we bought newest one we could from ford garage.

Added fresh summer coolant and hey presto - its been sat in the middle of gauge now for 2 weeks...

See also - threads by Rallyeluke as he is my fiancee and did all the research on it.

Hope it helps... total cost for parts - £35.00..... we did all work ourselves, even if the thermostat is in the most awkward spot!!

can someone tell me what hcv stands for? dont know much about cars but i wana learn pissed off gettin robbed by garages!!! thanks for your help
