In the last few weeks I've had an un-nerving rattle coming from my engine every time I accelerate under load. If you floor it then it didn't do it. Pootling at 50mph in 5th then putting your foot down caused pots and pans.

Then I realised what it was in an 'old school' type moment. I'd been running on 95 RON petrol for the last few tanks when my ECU is set for super.

I gave him a belly of nice potent V power last night and the rattle has gone. Me embarrassed.

May i ask why your ecu is set up for super?

Because ive debated getting it maped to make it more economicle

For better throttle response mainly if i remember rightly.. he'll be along to give you the details soon no doubt.

Relaying the answer from the other end of the sofa!

Dal had his ecu remapped with an FRP map on recommendation, with the intention of getting the most out of the Milltek cat-back exhaust. He was asked at the time what rating of fuel he normally used and it was set to that. So it was purely incidental.

It's no more economical than mine which is purely standard, running on standard fuel. Dal says he gets a bit more acceleration from it, but there's no way of telling which modification that can be attributed to, or if it's cumulative between the exhaust, the FRP map or the fuel mapping.

Edit under instruction: the FRP map modifies the 'take off' torque limiter the same as an FRP and gives a bit more mid range torque (between 3-5000 revs), which is useful for overtaking on motorways.

I presume you mean can you get it mapped to be more economical rather than for more power?

If so, you would need to get it mapped by a specialist (don't know of any off hand, it's not something that normally comes up with regards to pumas).

The FRP map for more power is a preset range of values that's simply a matter of fooling the ECU into thinking it's on an FRP.
To get an FRP map, you ideally need a 'TAPE' ECU, which is present on '99 and later, but not including the very latest models with two hego sensors.

More info on the different ECU types >here<

just a random question really. But most claim when remaping, to increase econamy as well as performance slightly

Well I still get over 40mpg all the time. Even with 'spirited' driving now and then.

It's advertised at £235, but if you say "It's half that at Tremona" you'll get it half that. (From Pumaspeed anyway)

Yes, I'd recommend it. Gives the engine a bit more flexibility throughout the rev range and more torque.

In my opinion.

Edit - It's gone up!

Miltek is a good first step. If your getting it fitted at pumaspeed youve got a good excuse to do two jobs while your there :eek:k:

According to the pumaspeeds website it's £300 for the cat back and £235 for the Re-map.

I recon you could get both for £450 if you haggle and wave the money under Tony's nose.

I need a new exhaust because its eating its self alive. My local garage quoted me £300 for a custom exhaust which i didnt think was to bad.

But if all that is that much mght have to take a little drive i think

Yeah, they did my last one on my fiesta sounded and looked great, not ott.
ive got a good relationship with them. he told me he did a womans a little while ago for £400. I do send all my mates there so they look after me and are great mot time as well. But said it didnt sound to different, i want mine to be raspy not chavy, you know what i mean.
a puma aint a skyline so why make it sound like one
