I'm in the process of changing the way my Pumas headlights work ;)

Does anyone know or has anyone fitted LED bulbs to their indicators if so has it affected the flash rate (specifically Puma, specifically indicator bulbs only). I'm replacing the 21W bulbs with 1W LEDs...

I've read that load resistors may need to be used to keep the flash rate normal and was wondering whether the Puma needed these. Not much of an electrical expert any advice welcome.

I've heard something about load resistors with LED replacements as well Col. Not too sure about the facts and figures but seem to remember something important about polarity.

Maybe have a read here as it's a cracking website and might have a few pointers:

Thanks for the link.

While you're here Dal could you verify the speakers size for the Puma's front doors. Currently scratching my head (and car interior still in pieces) why some people on PP have managed to fit 16.5cm coaxials straight into the front doors yet I bought the same ones and the metal cage can't even get into the hole...?

I got these.

AFAIK - The 16.5cm ones only fit if you start cutting metal, but they will go. You just need to get busy with the dremmel. The bigger problem with bigger speakers (so to speak) is that they tend to be deeper, and the puma doors at speaker level ain't got that much clearance.

A far better size is the 5 1/4 inch (130mm) which fit in easily.
I have the older versions of these in my front doors and dash tops:

A better bet if your not using an amp / sub is to put bigger ones in the rear as you can easily get a 6x9 in there. Leave the front for stereo imaging / clarity. (easily achievable with smaller speakers) You should be able to get your 16.5cm ones in the back with a baffle board to stop bass leakage.

Found this on here:

17cm may even go according to ebay links. I suppose it depends if the casing is fully out to 17cm, or far smaller with a flange that goes out to 17cm - if you know what I mean.

Looks like yours are proper 16.5 ones - not 15cm with a 16.5cm flange.

Might be an issue with different speaker sizes in different age pumas? Cheries older puma speakers look smaller as viewed through the grille. Maybe newer ones are slightly bigger aperature wise? Yours being a series 2 (like mine) should be capable of 130 (5 1/4") easily and 16cm at a push with 16.5cm / 17cm with cutting.

I was looking at these funilly enough.
Are they a worthwhile upgrade? Do they just fit in or do they need cutting?

I have a cunning plan for tweeter fitment if I get compnents

No cutting as fas as I know for those Infinity ones like in mine. Are they worth the upgrade? You not heard my stereo? Compared to Cheries standard setup, it' and orchestra to her one man band. DEFINATELY worth the upgrade :eek:k:

Tweeters in the mirror pods always work, Mine are just on the very edge of the dashboard, pointing up at the window. Makes it sound lke singers voices are infront of me (Where they should be!) as it bounces off the windscreen

Great guys at Oxford Car Audio B)

They not only gave me a full refund for the JBLs that didn't fit but they let me test fit different speakers to see which fitted properly.

So now I have a pair of these installed (I'm lazy),

Not cheap but very good and I do like my music. Only needed to drill 3 small holes each side to fit them.

They gave me a couple of packs of self adhesive closed-cell foam so I could get the speakers snugly fitted. Been running the speakers in all day- you certainly pay for what you get for the quality.
They also advised in cutting out a section of the metalwork behind the speaker to give the cone more 'breathing space' and give a more open sound, I'll probably do this modest mod a little later on once I can find a circle cutter for metal and a drill that doesn't have power wires exposed and a metal body...

If I was going for compnents I was about to buy a pair of used mirror pods, the ones from a Puma with manual adjustment levers. I was going to bin the adjusters and pop the tweeters in the holes left
The chap at the shop siad the speaker position was quite high so a separeate tweeter wouldn't be essential.

Glad you got it all sorted mate. I'll have to have a listen next week :eek:k:

Done anything about the rears yet?

Rears still standard ice cream cones.
