Its a good thing people can voice their different opinions here, thats why its a forum. If it werent for this, i wouldnt have used the air fuel ratio gauge (Thanks for that BlackKnight). I thought they were no good, and had read they were erratic and unreadable, but after BlackKnight told me that his worked fine, and was essential, i decided to try it, and he was right, i couldnt have set mine up as good as it is without it, and could hav paid dearly with melted pistons ect. So as i said, i welcome people with different opinions, as long as they have reasons why they think it wont work, and what bouncy said is a valid point, and most people wouldnt have thought about it.

Well my HID kit turned up this morning so that will be getting fitted asap. Pictures to follow as well.
Just awaiting my boost gauge, also ive removed the silver part of the dash to fit my two gauges in the part where the heater fins were.
I bought a piece of carbon fibre, which i will cut to fit and have my two gauges in.

2 turbo mods on the go at the same time...................Spooky, youve started a trend and when they all go bang who's door do we knock on!
Look on posting..................Smilies = JOKE

But look how much I got you to write with one finger:
This project isnt mine, its Sonnyp's im just helping him out with it. And i dont think it will go bang on low boost, hes only going to run low boost. The way to look at it to me is like this, the racing puma is exactly the same angine as the 1.7, the only difference is the ECU map (adjusts for fuelling and ignition spark), the exhaust is free flowing, and then theres the infamous inlet manifold, as well as high lift cams. Well the manifold and inlet high lift cam is eliminated, as the turbo forces the air in faster then the engine sucks it in. Then youve got the exhaust cam. The bang that the engine produces in the cylinder has more power now, so the when cylinder 4 ignites, it forces the air out of cylinder 1 with more force, hence eliminating the need for a high lift exhaust cam (well at leaste for the power were going for). A high lift exhaust cam would be neccisary for more power in my opinion. Then theres the ecu, but because of the way the fuel pressure regulator is set ip mechanically, rather then through the ecu, it fuels more when not on vacum, and with the use of the MAF sensor, it fuels for the amount of air going into the engine, and open loop is set by the parameters the MAF, and lambda send it when in closed loop. The ignition timing is still going to be the same, but if anything, that will be safer as the standard engine is slightly retarded, so for boost, it will help prevent detonation!! The only other thing is the freer flowing exhaust, , we cant really do nothing about that, but with the extra power the engine is producing, and forcing it faster out the exhaust, i feel this isnt a real issue unless the exhaust is really thin, or restrictive!
So were nearing the racing puma power, without the cost of all the expensive racing puma bits. And we know the engine can take 160bhp as standard, as it does nearly that from factory!
And a standard puma engine with throttle bodies will take 200 bhp all day long. So i personally dont feel there is any probs with it going bang, unless somebody tries to up the boost on standard compression, or tries to run too much boost or tries to get more then 200bhp, which i think is the engine and gearbox maximum, after that, i think there could be all sorts of problems!!

Im glad youve come up with potential problems, because not only will it educate people who dont know so much about how the engines work, but also you might come up with something that i havent thought about yet, and could potentialy save me alot of time, and more importantly, money, in the long run, but everything youve mentioned so far, ive thought about, and i feel that in theory, shouldnt be an issue in the set up ive gone for! Mine is running fine, just need to get the exhaust set up, then ill have vids and dyno printouts to show what ive achieved, Then only time will tell if it will last![/quote]

:p :p

lol i can just imagine pumanoob now with his index in a bowl of ice :p

get up a pic of the carbon.

i love carbon..... :p

Hey guys, might take a while to reply, have to use my left hand, coz my right fingure has miltiple stress fractures!!

lol..

got 15 jubilee clips through today. for £9.85 which i thought was quite cheap.
:( still awaiting 2 more hoses.

and will be getting my manifold flange drilled and tapped on friday or saturday.

will also be trying to source a boost gauge and maybe a air/fuel but im not sure if im going to have an air/fuel gauge yet....

and sorry no pics today.

For the price they cost its a must have! You will be able to roughly tune your engine with it & it will give u an indication of whats going on air/fuel ratio which is critical with a after market turbo conversion.

just been convinced to get one lol. another thing on the to buy list :p

cheers for your help :D

no updates really today.

all i got is a oil pressure switch. i need it to size up some adapters for my oil feed. plus i might aswell replace it for a new one now i got it spare :D

still await 2 bloody hoses and the bloke on ebay wont email me back!! which has annoyed me a little.
dropping the turbo off tomorrow to get the studs extracted because i cant them out to save my life. so tomorrow or saturday i will have some pictures of the turbo bolted to the manifold.

still need to get..

boost gauge
air/fuel gauge
gauge pod

i think thats all i need to buy. i cant think at the moment having a dumb moment :|

cheers for looking :D

plus i need to know what i need to fit the boost controller i have. anyone know.... pumanoob??? :D

Would that be my old manifold and cat going to good use? :)

If it's any good to you mate i have 2 T3 turbos from an Escort RS Turbo which are in need of work but could be of use perhaps? If they are let me know mate - don't want alot for them.

Sorry i aint been on here for a few days mate, to fit the boost controller, you just need 3mm/4mm silicone hose!! It just works by interupting the signal to the actuator, so it stays open for longer!! If your still comming to mine to finish it off, ive just brought loads of silicone hose, but unfortunately, youll only have the option of pink or green!!! But you can buy your own in black if you want, and just use mine if you dont have enough. Youll only need about 1 meter if your not going to use a dump valve. Youll also need 2 t-pieces, but your boost gauge will probarbly come with 1.

fury you manifold has help me out alot cheers and its now all bolted up to a nice turbo,

pumanoob cheers for the info you have a pm and yeah im still coming up. then i can tell you how nice your car looks in my rear view mirror. lol

sorry tyeboi. nothing until wednesday.. thats when my net comes back online :D
WOO!!

cheers for looking :D

The only way you will see me in your rear view mirror, is if we were having a race in reverse!!! And then it wont be for long!!
