    Woodbridge Trackday - Interest?

I've done 2 days at Woodbridge in the last 2 years in my RX-8 and didn't find it particularly bumpy or dirty (compared to 6 other "proper" circuits). Great layout too and pretty much the only things you'll hit are cones. The only real negative is the lack of cover from bad weather. I have...

    The gunky steering wheel. Help!

Mine was pretty bad but I sorted it with some Furniture Clinic products I'd used on my sofa: Leather Prep to remove the sticky stuff. http://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/Leather_Prep.php Leather Finish, a couple of coats brushed on. http://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/Leather_Finish.php It's...

    Another one bites the dust...

I'm thinking it might be worth at least selling some parts; the alloys are good for a start. Trouble is I really need it off the drive! I'm getting my Son to come round this weekend to remove his Sony head unit and other bits and pieces then we'll make a decision. Bob

    Another one bites the dust...

Haven't got round to checking anything properly myself yet but thanks for the fluid suggestion; I was wondering about the hydraulics. Bodywork isn't great; I reckon the arches have been filled before and are now erupting like a teenage face! I reckon that even if the clutch and gearbox are...

    Another one bites the dust...

Not mine but my Son's. It's a 1.7 X-reg with about 80k miles on it but in the space of one week it developed the following faults: Big oil leak (probably rocker cover, cam seals or crank seal). Big coolant leak (Thermostat housing I think). Cracked windscreen (£100 excess on insurance). Very...

    Buildings insurance or contents insurance

When I had a pipe under the floor develop a pinhole leak, the whole kitchen ceiling was replaced under buildings cover. It was done by one of those big national insurance repair companies who were about as good as the chuckle brothers; complete disaster, but that's another story! Bob

The book is dead - long live the book.

I love using my Kindle; not too heavy and easy to read with the lights out :-) The only books I prefer in real book form are those with illustrations that you need to keep referring back to. e.g maps in Max Hastings' historical war books. I recently read a book about the history of Gaza on...

    rust convertor

The liners come out fairly easily after removing a number of screws/fasteners which are fairly obvious once you've got the wheel off. I usually use Kurust on the rust but I'm always being told that Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80 is the best. Bob

    Brake caliper paint

Are you going on track at all? If you are then you need the really good stuff. I hammerited my RX-8 calipers and then went brown after a few trackdays. Not sure if the "heat resistant" hammerite is different. I re-painted mine with this...

    Track day noise info

One thing to bear in mind is the accuracy of noise measurements at tracks. In my experience many tests are not done exactly by the MSA regs and usually result in low readings. Snetterton seem to know what they are doing but Rockingham and Castle Combe on the days I went were pretty poor...

Blimey, I've never heard of that happening before. Any idea what's actually wrong with it? Knackered thread? Wrong size thread? Bob

    Cam belt replacement tutorial?

I didn't have any problem checking it with the engine in. I guess I had to stick my head somewhere at an awkward angle but could definitely do it OK. Alternative would be to take a photo with your phone. Bob

    Cam belt replacement tutorial?

Ah OK, understand now Chris. On my Son's it had definitely moved into the wrong position. Sounds like it's a bit of a lottery as to whether or not it goes wrong. Bob
