Bit of draft excluder on the sliding section or around the opening maybe? (rear edge and possibly top & bottom). Should stop any possible whistling and water ingress. If it was on the rear edge of the opening it would act as a cleaner too....lol. ;)

it had crossed my mind about some sort of sticky back rubber strip not sure will see what i can find

higher res pic of it

Also weighed the lexan and oem glass i was in so much of a rush i didnt take a photo of the lexan on the scales

P1070057.JPG

11.4 pounds = 5.2 kgs

Lexan weighed in at 4.2 pounds = 1.9 kgs

thats each side meaning total weight saving of 6.6 kgs

Sadly i hvent been able to fix them in yet as halfords didnt have long enough allen bolts, so will finish that part off when i order some and they arrive

Some might say what's the point in commenting if you don't appreciate it?

If you've nothing to add but personal attacks then please don't post as per the >rules<.

nah it is actually a car cover lol prob not the best one in the world does the job of keeping the water out while it has no glass though

they look very neatly fitted, top work, ive seen home made windows that just look bodged on but they look very smart for a DIY job! sliders look cool aswell!

Very nicely done!

Look forwards to seeing you do the rear quarters and would be interested in what the weight saving there is too.

I think I know somebody who may have some polycarbonate for me. I'll have to see it to know whether it is the right stuff. If it is I'll be following suit shortly :) .

Having handled the stuff do you think it would be possible to make a tailgate window from the same material? Or is it not flexible enough?

matey came out today and removed the glass for me

laid on poly as templates

cut out and trial fitted

P1070190.JPG

matey from the windscreen place said he will come back out next week to bond the polys in properly for me which was very kind of him so hopefully will be an actual proper job, hes also going to try and put some universal trim round the poly for me to neaten it up as the oem rubber seals are bonded onto the glass

weight of oem glass +vase

weight of poly + vase

P1070192.JPG

9.8-8.2 = 1.6 kgs diff x 2 = 3.2 kgs total

I was surprised actually how heavy the small bits are but understandable when you can see all that plastic and rubber bonded to it

After some consideration, iv thought of the best solution to making this polycarb look neat and oem

stick a3 paper over old glass

IMAG0712.jpg

hold up to light and trace roughly the outlines of the black portion

IMAG0713.jpg

cutout neatly making any wavy freehand drawn lines straight

IMAG0715.jpg

the plan is to stick to the ploycarb and spray the rear of the poly, this should leave a nice finish when viewed from the other side, eg the side facing you when you look at it on the car

IMAG0714.jpg

test piece of poly there, using trim paint, iv yet to decide what paint wouild be best, im thinking maybe some plastic bodyshell paint for RC cars???

Got on with these windows as i need them doing

supplies from town
never thought id be spraying a real car with model car paint :!
