Ok guys decsion has been made- Orginal ideas for this year have well and truely been sent to the scrap yard in the sky

Now its all about the following

1- New bushes, either uprated or normal
2- New clutch- anyone got any ideas / leads on this? would liek to uprate but don't wanna spend a fortune
3- New suspension- Mine is offically knackered :(
4- Cambelt
5- New plugs, leads, coil
6- MAF- either clean or port and clean.
7- try to do some el cheapo bits- clean the engine bay out, custom engine cover, maybe polich up the inlet and hae it engraved? Bonnet raisers, kick plates
8- New wheels- going for some orginals as a couple of mine are abit buckled

Don't want to spend any more then say £500- 700 in total

Think its do able?

1. Standard rear, FRP front arm rear bush, poly front arm front bush, ARB either poly or OE (note Z-S ARB bushes are different, larger hole), drop link - keep an eye on eBay for new OE parts - genuine are v. expensive, but pattern parts can cause probs with ABS sensor cable bracket), if replacing drop links then also get new ABS sensor cable brackets.
2. Fiesta ST.
3. Entirely down to how you will use the car. Personally I would avoid cheap kits, and would only go for coillies with adjustable settings, which are v. expensive. In any case, plan to replace the top mounts at the same time.
4. Priority, also do aux drive belt, and possibly water pump
5. I went for standard plugs and a nearly new standard coil pack, again, keep an eye on eBay for this, try to get OE, not pattern.
6. get some electrical contact cleaner from Maplin
7. engrave the inlet? Where?
8. Again, keep an eye on eBay. Watch the offset, obviously. Also, unless you are getting standard Puma wheels, try to avoid paying a premium for tyres, they probably won't be the right size.

Good luck!

Flash- thinmking of doing P-U-M-A on the standard 1.7 puma inlet- its metal right?

you may have mentioned but what backbox is that on yours? I love that shape and think it looks great :D Reminds me of the Puma on Colin Mcrae rally. While i like my 4" slash cut i think that would be more subtle ;)

Very nice car too - and the best colour of course. When fitting my exhaust with the extended wiring - I have a 99 Puma with single lambda and so far so good. If anything is wrong i haven't noticed any change other than stonking midrange power :p

Its actually a powerflow custom jobbie that was on the car when i bought it

It pops and bangs on over run very well- i am thinking of either swapping it at some pont for a full miltek system or just getting the mil manifold and joining them up

Flash- i thinks its just big enough and i am looking at getting it smoothed off to amke it stand out mkore- maybe cromed deping on what deal my uncle can do

not sure if miltek mani will fit onto a powerflow cat back.. best option it either full miltek or full piper system... theres little to choose between the two so it comes down to personal prefernce, i have the piper system and i love it!

car looks great by the way! black is by far the best!

not to keen on the idea of an engraved inlet manifold, id just spend money on stuff that makes a difference to the way the car goes, stops and handles, if you want to do what i think is the best mod for a puma then you want a pumaspeed 300mm front brake conversion, it'll mean running 16" wheels or bigger but its an awesome mod!

source the parts yourself rather than buying from pumaspeed, i did the whole conversion for £240 and that included mintex drilled and grooved discs and ebc green stuff pads, whereas pumaspeed charge £300 and you only get standard pads and discs!!

where abouts are you from?? my friend is a puma/zetec s specialist and undertakes alot of development work, he used to work for pumaspeed and developed alot of there conversion kits, like engines, brakes etc etc

Cheers Jay- got to admit that yours and Flash are the two i want to have mine looking like- some were in between.

Am from Oldham, near Manchester

Oh and all- Good news had the car on the ramps and it seems its all fine on the bushes front had all the wheels off at my uncles garage on the ramp. Noticed one of the exhaust hangers had coem undone so i hav put that back on.

Oh and i have re-Bluefinned my car, which belive it or not now has a discernable differnce from before.

Okay Update

This years Mod/Maintence/Road Tax budget- £1000

Near Rear Bearing's- Sorted first weekend of Feb- £50
Road Tax, end of April- £205
Cambelt kit- £98.25- fitting £100(ish)

Total spent- £453.25
Total left- £546.75

So with whats left im doing new clutch at some point- thats going to be circa £200 fitted i hope- going for a standard one this time around.

So that leave's £346.75

New bushes i think will be around £100 fitted (?) maybe less i've yet to really really look into it

So that would give me £246.75 left over

Any idea what to do with this ammount? Or should i put it towards the coilovers i want for next year?

Right- Massive thanks to BlackKnight for these P/S

I now have a set target for how i want my car to end up looking- no matter how long this takes to accomplish

So firstly the pictures

Option 1
9spokesPhotoshop.jpg

Option 2
scotty17greylenso-1.jpg

So after this year and getting the car to a agood solid base what will it take to get me to one of these options??

Well the following

1 set of Weitic Coilovers
1 FRP Splitter
1 Set of Matt black Graphics
1 Set of 300mm brakes at the front
Blue calipers / rear drums
(Option 2 would need a set of Lenso RS5's in Grey)

Stuff that won't be visable- well i don't know what to add yet- lots of options, but hey.

So what do we all think?

Personally, I think the lenso alloys are horrible. The cleaner lines of the 9 spokes look much better.

And IMO don't paint the rear drums in anything other than a dark colour : you're hardly wanting to shout about the fact they're drums.

Fair point Dal, i agree on the drums at the back- prob end up doing them black in the end with the blue calipers

I agree with Dal, the Lenso's look a bit fussy, but don't forget you will need to modify the Mondeo calipers to fit inside 15" wheels.

Not entirely sure about the stripes either, something I have pondered doing with mine, but it is less subtle than the look I am going for.

I painted my drums black before doing the disc conversion, tidies things up nicely.

If you were going to do the stripes, then IMO they should start from the front arch; on Fiesta, they start from the door as it has a prominant arch shape which takes up all of the bottom of the wing, the Puma doesn't have this.

I would like the 300mm brakes, but i would like the 16 inch wheels to go with it, just not sure which ones i should have

The stripes i can see what you mean, so i will see

Sorry, need to clear out PM box, but good choice on the new wheels, I quite fancied some of those, but they were going for a lot of money in late '08, hopefully cheaper now.

About £60 a corner Flash- its ok bud, thanks for the advice-

Well with help from Flash and Panic the new wheel choice has been made.

However it will be remaining a semi secreat till i have them.

They will be ford, and they ill be anthracite as per Option 1

In those pics it does look cool at that ride height, but in the real world it will be totally impracticle. Mines not even majorly lowered and i catch my exhaust on so many things, even coming down ramps at some car parks.

This is probably the most recentc pic i have, Its lowered on 15's and still catches things on the exhaust, i even have to slow to a crawl to get over speed bumps
